Busy days

Today I took my faithful companion BuddyTheElf on a nice, long walk. Even though deer hunting season ended on Saturday, Bud still sports his orange bandana. His next seasonal bandana will be unveiled in one of the other photos.
We walked in the early afternoon. The temps today were in the 30s but the sun felt warm. I actually like to walk when its a little cooler. The leaves made a pretty pathway for us and the green moss on the rocks as well as the various types of ferns added pretty color.
I love this little rock path across the stream. This is actually one of the first times I've walked there when there has been water running. We just had another rainfall so there were several little brooks bubbling along.

Here is our built-in security/alarm system. No matter how many times I move the chair away from the window, Buddy can still manage to stretch out and reach it. The colorful pile in the chair is a blanket Ashton gave him as well as a dog bed. Now come on, how many dogs are so spoiled that their dog bed is in a comfy chair?!
Here is Buddy modeling (somewhat sleepily) his Christmas bandana.
Mark, myself and the dog took a walk along some of the beautiful shoreline at Ocean Point, a summer colony in our town. It was very cold with a brisk wind blowing but to us the ocean is beautiful in any weather. Until my last surgery Mark and I would walk a couple of miles here almost every night. Most of the cottages are seasonal but more and more people are staying here year round.
This is just one of the lighthouses one can see from Ocean Point. We can see a total of four lighthouses from the shoreline. I have always loved this scene.
I am so glad that deer hunting season is all over. I guess the hunter across the brook from our home thought he was hiding well enough. I first spotted his reflection in the stream. Where the hunters were is the preserve next door!

You are truly blessed to live in an area open to nature and all its glory. My walk entails working around city blocks with traffic. Our streets are narrow do pediastrians and cars are pretty close in proximty. The seashore is just gorgeous :)

I do like the Budster's sexy holiday bandana. Tell him it gives him a certain allure, for sure. I spotted the hunter's reflection before I saw the hunter in your photo, too. Great shot of the lighthouse. Was your alarm system on full alert because the UPS truck was arriving?? Molly HATES the sound of the UPS truck. She's even trained me to recognize it!

Buddy looks a lot like a dog our one daughter had, they called him Mack. He looked like he had whippet in him. Yes even with deer season over, I would let him ear that orange scarf, could always be a straggler out there ready to shoot somehting moving.

Now I want to go for a walk! I don't have that much natural beauty around here, but there are several wooded parks. We are enjoying some clod, CLEAR weatherr for a change.

I've only been to Maine once, but I loved the scenery. Thanks for sharing your walk and, especially, your ocean views with us. I must admit, though, that I didn't realize what a hard life Buddy the Elf had to lead. It's a shame he has to sleep in a bed on that chair!

Thank you for this lovely post. I loved taking this walk with you. Buddy reminds me a bit of my granddog. :-)

What kind of dog is he? I am still wishing for a new dog to replace (nothing will "replace" her though) our Autumn Eve. Gone since Sept 2006. Gosh, time flies.

Hi Cheryl, I really love the scenery and forest walk your place, I think the solitude is deafening, ha ha.
By the way, what kind of dog is Buddy? Love that pic of him looking out the window....like an old busybody auntie, ha ha.

And pillows for him? Looks like a designer one too.
Guess looking at your trees, you might or may have to play that Bing Crosby's, "I'm dreaming of...", ha ha.
I love guns, but will not kill animals, just target shooting. I know what bullets or shotguns can do, the damage...

You have a nice day, maybe you should wear orange jacket too? Lee.

Cheryl,
What a lovely place to walk and enjoy nature and all its glory. You are so blessed to live in the country and be surrounded by such beauty. I also like your dog. The seashore is just gorgeous.

Rose Belle: I am very fortunate to live where one can walk many trails (sometimes without meeting another person!) as well as along the beautiful shoreline. We have many trails here in our area, preserved areas so that everyone can enjoy it for years to come.

tugce: Thanks for your kind comment. Glad you enjoyed them!

Jean: Buddy is puffed right up from hearing your compliment! He could have been on full alert for UPS or FedEx trucks. He hears them before we see them and he's off to protect the estate!

reanaclaire: I do enjoy walking in the fresh air. Its good for clearing the mind! And of course for health. I do hope you are feeling better.

Lin Floyd: I am so fortunate that I live on the coast. Our winters aren't very bad here. We have many trails to walk and enjoy.

Dez: Hope someday you can see all of these spots for yourself.

Patty: Buddy is still wearing his bandana as its black powder hunting season here until the 12th. So we are avoiding wooded areas for a while longer.

Spabbles: Thanks for stopping by!

Linda Reeder: We have to drive to many of our favorite trails. We do have the Preserve next door but it gets boring walking the same trail over and over...today we had temps in the high 60s! Strange weather here as well.

George: What part of Maine did you visit? Yes, poor Buddy does have a hard life...he even has to sleep with us at night!

Kay: Glad you enjoyed the walk! How is your grand-dog? Buddy is actually our grand-dog, too!

Abraham Lincoln: Buddy is a Jack Russell/Miniature Pinscher mix. He is spoiled. I am sorry about your dog, I know that nothing can ever replace a treasured pet but perhaps one will come along and steal your heart!

Uncle Lee: Thanks for stopping by. Buddy is a Jack Russell Terrier/Miniature Pinscher. He is spoiled alot by all. He sleeps in bed with us at night too! And he hogs the bed at times! We have to invest in orange hats for next hunting season. One never knows around wooded areas. Maine is known as the "Pine Tree" state and I imagine soon enough I will be singing "White Christmas" as the trees become covered with snow!

Brenda Kay Ledford: Thanks for your nice comments. I do love where I live, close to the ocean as well as many lovely places to visit nearby. It is quiet here now as the tourist season ends in October and everything closes.

Dora: There are many places to walk here. Along the coastline for aways, or in town (where there are a few sidewalks!) or on any of the many land trust trails scattered throughout the area. Nothing like a walk to make me feel better!

You live in a gorgeous area, Cheryl... I know how much you all enjoy that walking--and you can do it there (at least 'til the winter weather visits you).

Love your watchdog and his gorgeous Christmas bandana...

Hugs,
Betsy

Deer hunting season over...bag any good size deer for bbq? Nice pictures!

Betsy from Tennessee: The temp yesterday was in the high 60s and it almost felt like summer and today we had 50s. Snow is called for later this weekend. Then we will continue to get out but on snowshoes! Buddy is loving all the nice compliments he has been getting!

Pete: No deer was shot for BBQ. We don't hunt. I am hoping the young deer I saw this summer and fall survived the hunting season!
