A wintery walk

This afternoon we took a walk on one of our favorite trails, Porters Preserve.

I had to chuckle when I came upon a "Pine cone Warehouse"! There were several little piles of pine cones scattered around this big rock. Pretty clever. In case you are wondering where the snow is in some of these photos its because the trail is right on the oceans edge. We live about 5-6 miles from here and have several inches of snow on the ground.
What a great place for skating when the ice becomes thick (and safe) enough to skate on. This is just a skim layer and it looks almost like glass.
As we were leaving what did we spot but hens running across the road.
I think I heard this one yell "hey, wait for me"!
Must be meal time.
The alpacas just watched us watching them! They were all different colors and sizes. I think they have such a gentle "look" about them.

The animals you showed in this post are some of the smartest ones around. And man depends on them for so much. The photograph is very nice too.

I remember a bunch of jokes about why did the chicken cross the road. The only pun line I can think of is to get to the other side. But it doesn't seem funny now. Fun post-love the photos.

A wintery walk is an imaginaion to the one who spend most of his time in summer.

But I do have similar hens though they cross a different road.

Abraham Lincoln: Glad you stopped by. We are fortunate to have such a great variety of animals here!

Lin Floyd: You have it right with the joke punch-line. I was waiting for my husband to tell me that today while we sat in the car waiting for them to scurry across the road!

Wenn: I am very fortunate to live in an area that has so many different types of places to walk: intown, along the shoreline, on trails, and in the woods and fields.

rainfield61: I would love to be livin where it is summer weather all the time myself! Although we do have the experience of four seasons and all they bring.

Great place to take a walk, Cheryl. At first I thought the chickens were skating on ice on the pond... ha ha

Thanks for taking us on your walk with you.
Hugs,
Betsy

I would have loved to walk with you, but winter? hmmmmm

I just went for my first serious walk since last summer.

Did the chicken owner call for the hens to come home?

Cheryl, you're an accomplished photographer. The two hens crossing the road and the layer of ice looking like glass are awsome pictures!

This looks like a great place for an afternoon's walk. I like the pictures of the chickens running across the road. I'd run across the road for a meal myself.

Betsy from Tennessee: Hope you had a wonderful waterfall experience(s)this weekend. I'm glad you enjoyed the walk with us!

Ann: Its not too bad to walk when its in the 30s here, as long as you are bundled up! I try to walk every day in winter as long as the temperature doesn't go below 20. Its invigorating for sure! And the hens just seem to roam around the side of the road, we have come upon them before roaming around. Its a very quiet road so they probably feel safe.

Patty: Glad you stopped by! Have a nice week.

DUTA: Thank you for your nice comment. Glad you stopped by.

George: Glad you enjoyed the hens running across the road and I had to chuckle when you said you would too for food! Sounds like something my husband would say! Have a nice week!

I almost missed this post, Cheryl. I don't know how I overlooked it until now. The photos of all the chickens clustered at the fence is my favorite.

Hi Cheryl, I love where you live. From what I've read seen, you have a bit of Paradise there.
Add chickens, and the animals like llamas (?) sure one interesting place, and with the sea nearby, inbetween the lake.

We have snow thats turned to solid ice and reversing my car have to really be extra precautious, like hitting icebergs, ha ha.

Cheryl, I love fishing, out of curiosity, what fish is there in that lake? Bass, pike?
Horseback riding would be nice too this place.
You keep well and stay warm, Lee.

It's so nice to see your wintery pictures. It's around freezing here but no snow. We might get a little snow this weekend. *Fingers crossed.

It's also nice to read that Ashton is home.
