Winter explorations

We took a walk Saturday as it was just beginning to flurry. I was amazed that some snowflakes stuck to a cobweb on this branch. If the snowflakes hadn't stuck, I never would have known there was a cobweb still clinging.
An apple that didn't fall!
This Christmas tree brought smiles to our faces. Last year the same tree was also mysteriously decorated. Now that is Christmas spirit!

We crossed the saltwater marsh and around the head of the stream and explored some of the big rock and ledges that are located on another section of the Land Trust trail.
"I'm King of the hill"!

Its amazing how green the ferns and moss still are.

For a brief moment I was back on the elementary school playground!

Yesterday Buddy and I took a nice walk along the power line. It was in the high 40s and very nice.
Buddy even ventured into the brook for a stick!
However today was a different story! It has been around 0 with the wind chill in the minus numbers. Tonight it must be at least 5 below with the wind blowing. These little ice baubles are neat, the water froze around some branches in the brook as well as along the bank. Truly amazing.
Yesterday Buddy didn't need a warm jacket and neither did I! However today we walked the same trail very quickly and were out only for a few minutes.
As cold as it was there was still beauty to stop and look at.

It's gotten very cold here also, Cheryl. However, we are clear and breezy --with no snow.... Sigh!!!!!

Were those frozen areas just ice --or are they frozen waterfalls???? Gorgeous!!!!

Be careful out there walking when it's THAT cold.... Brrrrrr...

Great photos. Thanks!
Hugs,
Betsy

It's so pretty where you are. I love your pictures. Buddy looks so cute in his "King of the Hill" picture. I just love his coat. I love the Mark and Cheryl in the ice. Too sweet!

Lucy sends purrs to Buddy.

Betsy: The frozen areas were just run-offs I believe, from the trail above. I thought of you when I first spotted the ice, and was happy to imagine waterfalls!

reanaclaire: Yes, 5 degrees below zero with a sharp wind blowing! Buddy is snug in his lined suede coat and I don't keep him out for more than a few minutes when its this cold. He dipped into the brook on the nice warm day, when the temps were in the high 40s! Today its all icy where he dipped his paws.

Bernie: Today was somewhat "balmy" with a temp of about 20 but a wind chill of about 10. It was very pretty here as well. Calm before the big storm we are expected to get this weekend!

Wenn: Thanks! Happy 2010 to you as well.

Lucy the Cat: Yes, Buddy thinks he is very dapper in his fancy jacket! And he was showing off I believe by standing on the rock, hoping to impress Lucy!

Marci: Buddy is included in just about everything we do, even has been kayaking with us! He snowshoes and of course, hikes everywhere with us. When it gets too cold though he has to stay inside. Happy New Year!

rainfield61: Haha...how I would love to walk without a jacket and without boots!

Lin Floyd: We are fortunate to live in a wonderful four seasons state! Although I wished summer was about six months long....

Dora: Buddy has been going places with us since we got him in December four years ago. He is an indoor dog though when we are not out and about! He lays in the sun most of the day, snoozing! Happy New Year to you and your family!

Do dogs like the cold?

Here at my bro's place, his son doesn't like the heat, and they have to shear his hair off.

While we have sweltering heat, I think of you in the cold.
