Bits and Pieces

Look at this wonderful holiday card I just received as a gift from a blogger friend. Its so artfully done and beautifully decorated on the inside. I just love the little decorations hanging from the tassel. It will have a place on honor on the Christmas tree. Thanks again for your thoughtful gift Wenn!

It wouldn't be Christmas without my Santa Claus. He is supposed to hold a small Coca-Cola bottle in his hand but as you can see he had some sort of "accident" over the years! I do have the small Coke bottle safely put away. Santa was a gift to me for my very first Christmas-53 years ago. He has been part of my family Christmases ever since, and when I had my first apartment he moved in as well. He has become part of my own family's Christmas and someday he will hopefully grace one of my children's homes. The three children will have to rotate him between homes! Santa has stood the tests of time very well I must say!
As many of you know, Ashton has collected holiday cups since she was just a little girl. Even though she is now 18 I couldn't resist buying her a Christmas cup for this year. Our cupboard is full of all kinds of seasonal cups. Its a tradition that we both love.
My duck friends have been in the brook this week. They were here all last winter and seem to be settling in for the upcoming winter. Speaking of winter, today the temperature was in the teens and with the wind chill it was about 0 here today. Buddy was in no mood for any walk today. I did go out and take a quick walk and then bundled up and did some clean up of fallen branches in our yard. I think its time to hibernate!
Caught this reflection of the pine trees in the ice in the pond.
This almost looks like open water but its actually frozen over. Brrrr....
The next few days here are going to be very cold, tonight its forecast to be 5 below (zero that is)! Oh well, its Maine!

I think that it's wonderful that your Santa has been with you for each and every Christmas. It's supposed to be cold down here over the weekend, but thankfully not quite as bad as what you're expecting.

That's great that you have an old Santa that's been around that long. We had a plastic electric Santa, he stood about 12 inches tall, and his cord was so short you almost had to have him either plugged into a drop cord, or sitting by the baseboard. One day while cleaning the garage, I thought I'm going to pitch that old Santa, well one of our daughters took him and she still gets him out every year. We bought him at the 5 and 10 cent store when we first moved here 47 years ago. She loves it.

Patty went to the store today and got ingredients to make a fresh batch of vegetable soup. I really like the way she makes it.

It reminds me, your coke bottle, that I have an original coke ink blotter they used to give children in country school each year. It is at least 60 plus years old now.

And that Santa is one special guy in your family. I hope he stays around for many more generations to come.

Hugs,

I love all your winter photos, Cheryl. They're beautiful and make me remember the cold. The holiday card from Wenn is lovely and Santa Claus is an heirloom. My daughter started a sort of glass cup collection when she went to Disneyland. Unfortunately, the collection stopped at 1. I have a clear mug collection that I started. I have three. They're not that easy to find which makes it even more of a fun challenge.

PS: YIKES! The weather over there! Piper doesn't even wanna go out to potty here and it's only in the low fifties!

Hi Cheryl,

The Christmas card is so lovely!

I love that Santa and the fact that he's been with you for so long. He's a true heirloom. I'm impressed by what good condition he's in too.

I went for a walk today in 32 degree weather and thought that I may not do that again because my face was so cold. Then I read that you went for a walk in 0 degree weather. I need to toughen up. :)

Nice pics of the frozen pond!

How nice you have a family heirloom to pass to your children. My coworker has a doll about 40-50 years old too and she plans on passing it down to her eldest daughter. The Christmas card you received is surely unique, very beautiful made too. I thought where you live would be covered completely in snow. Geez, temperature below zero, now that's freezing cold!

It rained this evening, and made the night cold, but must not be as cold as yours. I am not seeing snow outside.

It's so neat that you still have your Santa AND the Coke bottle, even if Santa no longer holds it.

The reflection in the icy photos are fantastic. Will the water freeze over?
