Frosty

Lots of frost in the marsh today. The temperature dropped below zero last night and wasn't too much warmer today. We bundled up warmly and took a walk on the preserve next door. One cannot let winter get the best of us!

I went to check on a small pond along side the main trail. When I was climbing up an embankment to the trail I spotted a hole in the ground with this green leaf showing brightly. I was amazed by the frost on it as well as on the stem of the leaf and inside the hole.

Spotted a few clumps of crystals popping up through the ground. I love seeing these amazing shapes.
This is the tidal brook that flows beside and behind our home. It stayed lightly frozen over all day today.

Sure is cold up there, Cheryl. Love your 'frosty' photos... Hope you all don't get that horrible storm going up the east coast. Hopefully it will go out to sea before getting to you... At least, I hope you don't get the worst of it....

Hugs,
Betsy

great frost closeups. I'm going out with my new camera today for some closeups but there's little frost to shoot.

I checked with my book of photography. The macro view of the leaf with frost looks very good, if you have tried.

Love those frost crystals, Cheryl. Nice photos, per usual. (The Santa holding a Coke identical to yours sold on eBay yesterday for $120!)

Betsy from Tennessee: It actually was a little "tropicalish" here today in Maine, in the teens! We had a nice walk with no wind. No storm yet here but maybe a little snow tomorrow. Are you getting any of the storm? I know you do like some snow!

reanaclaire: I so enjoy your blog!Brrr....7-10 degrees daily, then you know what it is like here in Maine in the winter. Although we have temps from 20's to 30's sometimes in the winter. No, the water is not safe to tread on, this is tidal so the tide is constantly moving beneath the ice so not safe. Its very pretty though.

Dez: Yes, we still get outside even when its that cold! Just bundle up in layers! Today we walked in the balmy temp of about 20! It makes us appreciate the spring, summer and fall seasons much more. I'm posting more frost photos later on from today.

Kay: I must give you credit for my frosty photos. Your post about snowflakes gave me the idea to look for some frost, as we have no snow at the moment. I took more photos today as well. Might as well enjoy the cold, dark winter by enjoying Mother Nature's little gifts.

Rose Belle: So glad you enjoyed the photos. I hope if we get snow tomorrow to try to photograph a snowflake or two. Yes, I go out when its that cold, otherwise I would never get off the couch in the winter and weigh too much! I finally learned to enjoy winter two years ago when I started snowshoeing. Now I am out alot! We have plenty of days that its in the twenties and that feels almost like summer!

Uncle Lee: Hi, so pleased you stopped by. Glad you enjoyed the photos. I have fun taking them. I use a point and shoot Canon Power Shot SX110 IS. I shoot in Auto mode most of the time and some in Macro as well. No fancy zoom lenses. My daughter has one as well as its so easy to use and very reasonably priced. I was out today (in the low 20s) and got some more frosty shots and will post in a bit. OOOhhhh...I shall definitely drop by tomorrow or the next day!! I am intrigued!!

Lin Floyd: How wonderful, a new camera! Did you have fun with it today? I would love to see "Non-frost" shots if you care to share! You must have some very pretty scenery there to share. Enjoy!

Wenn: Hi, pleased you enjoyed!

rainfield61: Hello. Yes, I shot the leaf photo with the macro setting. I really like using that setting. I must confess that I have never read the book that came with my camera but just bought a book on digital photography for beginners. I must sit down and start reading!

Aunt Jean: $120! Wow. I could never sell my Santa though, its one of the only things I have from my childhood. And everyone has enjoyed it through the years. However, if I needed the money...that Santa was in wonderful shape, mine does have a damaged hand and a pen mark on one cheek, I think from Margaret or Janet!!

Linda Reeder: Glad you came by. Yes, Mother Nature has so much for us to discover and I have finally learned to slow down and do just that! Even with the cold one can still find beauty!

Lucy the Cat: Hello! So nice to have you back. Glad you enjoyed the pics. Take care and stay warm!

Margaret: Thank you Sissy!

You got some beautiful pictures of the frost on the leaves and grasses. I'm glad we can enjoy them even if the weather is not quite as cold down here in Tennessee.

Buddy's got a great "Mum" who has dressed him snug and warm. Would he venture out if he is not warm?

I like the crystals too. Don't remember seeing them in the Canadian winters when I was there. But then, I was mesmerised by the snow.

Cheryl said...

George: I consider it my "duty" to show those who don't have Maine winters what they are missing!

Ann: Glad you stopped by. Yes, Buddy is very spoiled, nothing but the best for him. He doesn't have much fur so when its this cold we do put a coat on him. He would go out only if necessary without his coat when its this cold. He doesn't mind the temperature from about 20 degrees and up.
