All this for $6.00!

Upon making a trip to our local landfill today I spotted a piece of furniture that interested me. Let me explain. It used to be one could leave a discarded piece of furniture or a chair, sofa, tv, etc.,etc. at the landfill. A way of recycling good items. People could find themselves a treasure there, sort of like "one man's trash is another man's treasure". As a matter of fact many people used to sit there daily and just watch for something wonderful to appear. Now the landfill has a small shop located where treasures are displayed for purchase. I didn't buy the furniture that I originally had my eye on but decided I might as well check out the shop. I was amazed by the shelves full of "discards". There was china, glassware, baskets, frames, Christmas decorations, books,DVDs, old telephones (rotary dial!) and loads of other stuff.

I couldn't pass up these two cute honey jars.
And two metal painted tv trays. They are in excellent condition and so beautifully painted.

I didn't need Black Friday to find bargains, I just shopped locally at the landfill shop!

I don't think people are allowed in the landfills in this area. Not sure though. But people set stuff out by the curb on trash day and there are people with pickup trucks who come around and pick up things of any value.

GREAT finds!

I have to say, my Dad was so disappointed when "the depot" as he calls it, changed to a shop...but I think it's a good thing!

Looks like you did good. I don't think they do anything like that around here. But then I don't know since I never go looking for bargains at second hand shops or any place else. Perhaps I should.

You "done good," Cheryl. Love the honey jars, and those trays are a real find. You'd pay big bucks for them at an antique shop, I'm sure.

oh my goodness, Cheryl...I LOVE your bargains! That sounds like my kind of shop!

Finally....I'm able to leave a post on your blog. I've been trying for two days. I would click on the "comments" at the bottom, but the comment page would not pop up. So I've read all of your wonderful posts, but haven't been able to comment.
That's a great deal you got. I especially love the trays! I wish we had something like that around here.

rainfield61: I had never heard the one about "One man's Weird is another man's Wonderful"! Makes sense.

Lin Floyd: One of the nice things about living in a small town is people really do look out for each other and help out whenever and wherever its needed. The dump shop money goes back into the town for expenses. Our landfill was one of the very first in our state and has actually won awards for the recycling!

Dora: The bees on top of each jar is what attracted me to them! I shall enjoy displaying them.

Wenn: Thanks. Now they will be my "treasures"!

Abraham Lincoln: Our landfill has an area away from the main area for the little shop. We don't have curbs here for picking up treasures from!

reanaclaire: I probably should have spent a little more time browsing around, there certainly was many nice items.

Melissa: Hi! Glad to hear from you and hope you are well. I agree with your dad, but now that I have actually "shopped" there it is o.k. I know alot of people miss "the depot" though.

Patty: Oh the second hand shops here are all for charities such as our little hospital and the Animal Shelter. I love to browse through them. You never know what you might find in one.

Aunt Jean: I just about screamed when I found the trays in a corner! I just fell for them. I must go back now and then to search for more valuables!

Heather: Believe this or not, but I did think of you when I found the two trays! They seemed like something you would enjoy cleaning up and using! I must say your lovely finds have encouraged me to "browse" more in our two thrift shops.

Marci: So nice of you to stop by. Yes, these types of shops are sometimes better than a regular store!

It looks as if you got a couple of wonderful bargains. I think it is a good idea that the landfill has set up the shop. Not only are they bringing in a little money, they are also recycling and keeping things out of the landfill.

Hi Cheryl, wow! The stuff that people throw away! And you're right, "another's treasure".
I twice found antique wooden chairs, lots of scratches, made by cats I think.
I sandpapered and added glossy vanish and one now in our house, one I sold for $100, ha ha.

Hey, maybe one day might come across a an old painting, and maybe a long lost Rembrant, or a Monet, or Van Gogh.....it has happened here, people buying cheap $2.00 paintings and later discovering it was by a well known painter and richer by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Love your collection, beautiful. You have good taste. Bet its now a conversation piece, huh?
Have fun, lee.

Cheryl,
This is a wonderful idea to sell stuff at the landfill. Looks like you got some treasures. I love the honey jars. I sure wish our county would take up this idea and sell stuff rather than throw it away. Have a great week.
