Here is what we awoke to this morning! The bird bath was covered with a thin layer of ice as well to add insult to injury.

The bushes were nicely coated with ice....

as well as the front lawn, which is still in need of raking! There are still leaves on the oak trees so Mark has been waiting til all are on the ground before he starts raking.

Most of the trees bordering the backyard are bare now.

I guess this is the end for the mum plant!

However on a brighter note, my Christmas cactus plant is just beginning to bloom. I think it will actually be a "Thanksgiving" cactus this time. I never know when it might bloom, it has in the spring (Easter Cactus?) once around the Fourth of July (a Firecracker Cactus?) and another time in the middle of the winter. This plant came from my grandmother's plant many, many years ago.

Buddy was overjoyed today when his yummy "Buddy Biscuits" arrived from Planet Dog. And his favorite rawhide chews were replenished as well.

Oh happy day I am sure I heard him say.....

And the icing on the cake so to speak was Ashton is home for the weekend! Today we had a nice "Mommy and Me" outing to our favorite "beautification" place where I treated her royal highness to a facial and I treated myself to a mani/pedi. Ashton mentioned going shopping but that seems to have fallen by the wayside, as she's taking a nap instead! Perhaps she's catching up on all the sleep she misses when she is studying hard at school....

Beautiful pictures! And Ashton looks lovely near the computer.
Hi Cheryl, Snow and Ice already, huh????? Like you said--a taste of what is to come!
My Christmas cactus (much smaller than yours) is beginning to bloom now also---even before Thanksgiving... Crazy thing!!!!
I know how much you cherish your time with Ashton.
Hugs,
Betsy
Nice pics but looks oh so cold. It's getting quite cold here too. We're in the 40's today. I didn't see any ice though. Your cactus bloom will be so pretty.
Buddy is such a cutie. I'm glad he gets goodies. :)
What a lucky girl Ashton is. I would love to get a facial!
Enjoy your weekend!
Vicki
We started the day with thunder and lightning and a hail storm, followed by a downpour! Our first November storm, with more to come.
ice outside but warm inside helps. looks like a fun time with the daughter home. My cactus stopped blooming guess I need to replant it.
Oh "mom-daughter" moment is precious... everyone seems happy there including Buddy huh!
I just love that wonderful relationship you have with Ashton. That's so lovely. You have such a HUGE backyard. I'm totally envious!
We didn't get ice or snow here, but then we live in the more tropical "southern Maine."
Wish my cactus had heavy buds like yours. I checked it just this morning and found a grand total of...zero. Shoot.
so..the snow has come.. sooner or later, u can only see white, right? i have yet to experience snow, hope next month i will have the opportunity to.. i m going to japan for a winter holiday..hope it goes thru with the visa..
DUTA: Thank you. The photo of Ashton is one of where she can usually be found or I could have posted a photo of her with her cellphone "attached" to her ear!
Betsy from Tennessee: Hi Betsy. Maybe we should have a "contest" to see who's cactus blooms the longest! LOL. I love the bright color in my window during these dark, damp days and it makes me think of my dear grandmother!
Lucy the Cat: Ashton thoroughly enjoyed her facial and I came home with ten brightly painted toes and fingers! I do hope she doesn't plan on another facial soon-as I gave her one of MY gift certificates for the facial.
Linda Reeder: Today the sun is out and the temps may reach close to 60! But that is November.
Lin Floyd: How true, cold outside-warm inside! Maybe your cactus is on a "time-out"? This cactus seemed to not bloom for quite some time and the last year has bloomed several times. It is located in a cool area and has limited morning sun.
Dora: Thanks for visiting. Everyone had a great day, Buddy included!
Kay: Thanks for your nice comment. Believe it or not, Mark mows the backyard and an even larger front yard all by hand! He says he is not ready to give the hand mowing up for a lawn tractor just yet, its exercise! It takes him two nights after work to do each section!
Aunt Jean: Maybe your plant is on "hiatus" just now. Probably waiting to bloom for Christmas.
reanaclaire: Yes, soon we will have enough snow to cover the ground. We are on the coast so don't get too much, we sometimes get rain. I am so happy for you that you are soon going to Japan. How wonderful- a winter holiday!
Cheryl,
Whow! You've already gotten ice and snow!!! I dread winter.
I love your beautiful Christmas cactus.
I hope you have a great Mommy & me outing and a wonderful weekend.

No, no, no, I'm not ready for that white stuff yet. Today it got up to around 68 here in Ohio where we live.
It won't break my heart if that snow and ice stays up there for a while. I enjoy looking out the window in the morning and seeing roses in bloom!
nice post with an array of beautiful pictures and lines....
I'm still waiting to see the first frost of the year. It's nice to see that you had a nice family weekend.
Have a great week and try to stay warm.
I love your cactus plant. It is beautiful!
Oh wow, what a lovely Christmas cactus! You and Ashton look good. Lovely yard. Good capture. It does look cold already. Winter comes early! :)
SNOW!! I don't have snow in my city so it's something that I get excited when I see. How much snow do you get? How cute, you call your daughter "your royal highness". I call mine "my preciouses". I have two girls.
This is a nice post. I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures and the descriptions of each one. I don't much envy you your ice but then that is what we will get here soon enough. I have been trying to catch up with getting the outside stuff done before winter hits and we are sunk in forever below freezing temperatures.
I did get the decorative grass clumps cut down and moved so the blades don't saw the other things to pieces. I don't know how much money I had spent on that grass but enough and now most is gone to grass heaven.
I have one large white mum that was stuck next to the garage door and has now spilled over on itself. It is huge. I want to cut some of that off and use to start several mums out back.
So I ain't done yet but it is spoiling my hibernation from blogging. lol
Oh my gosh, Cheryl! It looks so different by you than by me! I don't quite know that I'd be liking that snow on the ground already. I'm glad you had a nice weekend with Ashton home. I absolutely love your Christmas cactus! That is gorgeous!!
Brenda Kay Ledford: Well I too dread winter...I belong somewhere warm and tropical! We had a wonderful "Mommy and Me" weekend together. Another treasured memory to tuck away.
Patty: We too have been enjoying some warmer days here the past few days-60s! I love it. Even got outside to have my coffee yesterday morning, me and the dog!
George: I certainly can understand why you would just as soon wait for a while for the snow and ice. Enjoy your beautiful roses as long as possible!
Sharodindu: How nice of you to visit and leave a nice comment.
James: Thank you for stopping by. A nice weekend was had by all! I do hope you are feeling better.
Unstoppable Spirit: I am glad you enjoyed the beautiful Christmas cactus. I will have to update my blog soon with another photo of many more blossoms on the plant.
Tes: Hi, so nice of you to stop by and leave your comment. The leaves are almost gone now and everything has a winter look to it, bare and gray!
Rose Belle: Hi! I think "my preciouses" is a sweet name to call your daughters. Ashton always called me her "sweetie cheeks" when she was little, I don't know where it came from but I loved it. We don't get much snow here as we are on the coast but can get up to 18" to 24" in a bad storm. I will be sure to post snow photos this winter!
Abraham Lincoln: I must tell you that I loved the grasses in some of your photos this summer so I went out and purchased similar grass to plant in my garden. However, I do hope I don't have to deal with the grass sawing everything else up in pieces! I still have to cut back alot of the perennials and bring in the garden decorations. I have emptied out the bird feeder but have left the granite one filled as that one won't break in the cold!
Joyce's Journey: Hi! I will have to post some more photos soon of the Christmas cactus, it is really popping with blossoms now. Ashton and I had a nice weekend together. They become even more precious now!
