Sunday special

Bright berries against the brown marsh and the gray skies today.
I spotted this Red-tailed Hawk today. It swooped down to perch on a tree limb and proceeded to devour whatever it had carried in its claws.
After lunch he then dove into the brook to wash up. He fluffed himself all over and then settled in. Maybe looking for dessert?

A little more fluffing of feathers...
and with a look towards me that seemed to say "what are you looking at"? off he flew.

I'm sure he was looking for a delicious Mourning Dove for dessert, Cheryl... Don't you think?????? OR---maybe he's looking for a pretty female to enjoy some hanky panky with--now that he's clean and all spruced up!!!!!

Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

What a huge, majestic looking bird. No giant birds in Hawaii that I've seen.

Holy cow. Those photos of the hawk are incredible, Cheryl. Definitely Maine Audubon Society-worthy. He's giving you such a look in the final photo!

I have never seen one in a bath or take a bath but have seen them soaking wet. Nice shots.

It certainly was nice of the hawk to pose so nicely for you. You got some great pictures, so who cares if the skies were gray.

I always admire eagles and hawks, very majestic birds of prey!

The hawk just let you do your thing. Were you at a close distance to it? I can never take pictures of small animals like birds or squirrels pictures, they take off as soon as they feel your presence.

Great shots Cheryl! I find it really hard to get good pictures of birds.

They are amazing aren't they? WE have two different ones that visit our backyard quite often. I just hate to see him tearing something apart. But I know he has to eat also. I even tried sticking a piece of fresh uncooked chicken breast out on the fence, but he wouldn't have anything to do with that.
