Christmas cactus, hens and socks!

You may remember I posted a photo of my Christmas Cactus a week ago. Today the plant is filling the dreary, drizzly and gray day with sunshine! It is a beauty.
Tucked into the plant stand below is this little cactus plant. Its color is somewhat a pinky, peachy color. It looks about ready to blossom.

And even the itty-bitty cactus is showing off! It only has the one bud but it is very pretty.
I was delighted to see a Hooded Merganser appear in the brook beside the house yesterday.
Along swam a Ms. Merganser.

Yesterday afternoon was time for a walk. We went to Porter's Preserve. However, in the words of my comical husband "we ran a-fowl of these birds". We stopped the car while the pair decided whether they should or should not cross the road! Finally a decision was reached and they let us pass by.

Friday night we went to dinner. As we drove along this beautiful sunset unfolded before us. It was simply glorious. On the way home we passed a house COMPLETELY LIT UP with Christmas lights and the yard was decorated with Christmas items. It was only November 13th!
Then we passed another home that had all of its many windows decorated with Christmas wreaths. First the stores have Christmas items out before Columbus Day and now Christmas lights are lit?? However I must admit to contributing to the early Christmas season as I did purchase the annual Christmas socks for Ashton, as I have since she was a baby. And yes, I have started my Christmas shopping as well. Its done a little at a time so we are not overwhelmed!

Aren't the Mergansers cute? And I'd kill, almost, to have a Christmas cactus like yours. Mine looks very healthy and happy, yet it doesn't have a single bud. The sunset photo is bee-you-tee-ful.

I love your Christmas cactus. It's beautiful!

It's smart to start Christmas shopping early, but I like to wait until after Thanksgiving for any decorations to come out. I sure wish the stores would comply with that!

The Mergansers are so cute, and your sunset picture is just gorgeous!

I hope you, hubby and Buddy are having a fabulous weekend!

Taking our Granddaughter to school the first Monday after Halloween, I noticed this one house, putting up an inflatable turkey, I hate these things, unless they keep them inflated all the time, when they shut off the motor it looks like a bunch of trash laying in the yard. Anyway they were putting up their turkey and I thought, what is that woman putting in the tree behind the turkey. Believe it or not, they have this tree, just an ordinary tree, hanging with Christmas tree ornaments, they have green swag and red ribbons under their windows, and lights strung across the top. Haven't been past when it's dark to see if the Christmas decorations are lite at the same time as the turkey. Guess they wanted to take advantage of the nice weather.

I like things simple, a few candles in the window. I never have liked all the lights on and around a house, perhaps it's because my Father use to decorate and the whole family was in an uproar until he had it finished. No fun at all.

Your Christmas cactus is a beauty. I use to have one, and my Mother-in-law told me to set it in the closet for so many weeks ahead of time, that way it would bloom around Christmas. I tried it once, I didn't like it sitting in the closet, I figure I could enjoy the blooms anytime it decided to bloom and I did.

Those are really unusual, pretty ducks! Your Christmas cactus is totally amazing! You should see ours. It doesn't seem to know what to do. No buds, no flowers. It's just sitting there looking gloomy.

I don't know which is prettier -- your cactus or the sunset. We have a cactus in bloom now, but it's not as big and full as yours. We came home after dark this past weekend and saw a house completely decorated with the Christmas lights on. Unbelievable! I guess I'll have to start my Christmas shopping.

I like your story on the pair of hens. Cute.

And the cactus grows so many flowers, you must have a pair of magical hands.

Christmas is coming, New Year will follow, and then is my Chinese New Year, which coincidentally will be on Valentine day.
