Saturday

Queen Anne's Lace. Even though it looks bedraggled now, it still is beautiful with its tiny little flowers. Many flowers may have gone by, but I have been looking at them even closer, they still have hidden beauty.
This little dandelion caught my eye. It made me think of a ferris wheel! Each little petal reaching out, almost as if it was twirling.

One of the few remaining blooms of summer near the pond.

Labor Day was an absolutely gorgeous, perfect Maine day. We started off the day with a hike on Porter's Preserve, a Land Trust trail http://bbrlt.org/ that we hike several times a week.
We marveled at the beautiful day all around us, the sparkling, glittering ocean and the pretty blue sky. Sailboats and power boats were out and about. Mark and I lingered for a long while on the rocks, just enjoying the day.
Here are Ashton, my mom, our dear friends Louise and Sarah, and myself after Ashton's birthday party. Louise and Sarah are what my family lovingly call "Our Texans". Louise has been visiting the area for 40 years and her family has visited our area for many years as well. Every two years Louise with her sister Sarah arrive in their camper for the summer. So besides celebrating Ashton's birthday and Margaret and Robbie's 18th wedding anniversary we had to say good-bye (for now) to Louise and Sarah. This year's visit was made even nicer as the two gals arrived just in time to attend Ashton's high school graduation. However, my mom and I are seriously thinking of visiting "Our Texans" later this year. Their entire family has invited our family many many times to come visit.
As I am sure you all know (!) Ashton turned 18 on Monday. She must be getting older, she asked me earlier in the day how come when one is a little kid they get so excited about their birthdays, like they were holidays but as one became older they didn't seem quite like that?! We had 23 guests here to help her celebrate. Plenty of food, cake and visiting! A ping-pong paddle for Ashton. I am guessing she takes after her mom, who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if she had to! So I guess this "big" paddle is just what she needs to play ping-pong.
One of Ashton's most treasured gifts was this hand-made block for Ashton's dorm room. Tiz had worked hard painting and decorating her gift for Ashton.

Hi Cheryl, Hope you and your Mom do get to go to Texas this year. Where in Texas do your friends live??? That would be neat!!!

Great pictures---and looks like Ashton had a great 18th birthday.

I love the pictures of the flowers, both the Queen Anne's Lace and the dandelion. The flowers are so beautiful, and you did a great job with the photos! The sun on the water is beautiful too.

Looks like Ashton had a great birthday.

Beautiful celebration. Happy belated birthday to Ashton who is a very attractive "young" (tell her) lady. The flower pictures are a reminder that fall is near and here, the last two days it feels like that. Yesterday morning it was 50. This morning it is 48 and always gets about two degrees colder before the sun comes up.

Thanks for the comment about my son's birthday card to me on my Pick a Peck of Pixels blog.

Wonderful pictures. This post gives me a nice, happy feeling.
Also it reminds me that I want to try to get some flower close ups before they fade away.
Have a great day Chery!

It looks as if you had a very nice, very successful birthday party for Ashton. Porter's Preserve looks like a beautiful place to spend the day.
