Nope, you don't have to adjust your eyes, I took this photo through the rain-covered windshield! Since we have become semi empty-
nesters we can come and go as WE please. Well, as long as
BuddyTheElf doesn't mind...Knowing it was to rain today we planned a trip to The Christmas Tree Shop in Augusta. It was packed with people, most of them probably thinking the same as us, "it's a good day to go shopping"!

We purchased two small bookcases for our bedroom. I love to put things together so tomorrow when Mark goes to work I will set up shop. I single-
handedly put together two end tables and a coffee table in our living room. I don't say this to brag but I got such a thrill out of putting the furniture together and trying to figure out the tiny typed directions and what went where. A friend even enlisted my help in putting together a hope chest for her daughter. I really get a kick out of it. Hey, I am a simple girl. No comments! Besides these stands were just a mere $19.99 a piece. Now granted they may not be high-end but we will enjoy and use them as if they were. I will post a photo after assembly. Please wish me luck and that all the parts are included....

Yesterday we purchased a super deluxe squirrel stopping bird feeder that was on sale for $34.97. It was originally $49 so we felt we could justify it as well as the fact that the gray squirrels and a couple of chipmunks have been cleaning out several of our feeders non-stop lately. We have been very lucky over the years to escape this situation but not this year. Do the chipmunks and squirrels let each other in on the best spots to eat?? Bird seed is expensive but we do so enjoy watching the various birds that visit our yard. But anyways, today while shopping we spotted this type of feeder for $7.00 so figured we would buy two of them. They most likely will be better than the expensive one!

One of the reasons why we spent $$ on a squirrel-proof feeder!

After shopping we went to a Chinese restaurant and enjoyed the luncheon buffet. I mentioned to Mark that it was so weird not to have a "time limit" to get home.

We then made a visit to the Maine State Museum located right next to the Maine State Capitol.
http://maine.gov. When we entered the museum a memory of a field trip with Ashton's second or third grade class came back to me. The students and
chaperones sat on the floor of the big entrance hall and had a picnic lunch before we spent a few hours touring the museum. What a wonderful memory! I even enjoyed the bus rides to and fro with the kids.

We enjoyed our visit but as it was getting close to closing time we didn't visit all that we wanted to. So another trip to the
museum will go on our "to-do" list. A wonderful place to spend hours enjoying Maine's history and the great displays.

What a bright spot welcomed us home this afternoon. Courtney brought me a huge pot of mums. Thanks so much Court!

I couldn't resist buying Buddy a Christmas
bandanna. He did not like it one bit. Well at least I got a photo of him wearing it. He looked mortified I must admit. Hey Lucy the Cat, what do you think?

It sounds as if you made the best of a rainy Saturday. We had a beautiful day here. And for your information we are convinced that squirrels and chipmunks share info a free food available for the taking!
Hee hee...I say better Buddy the Elf than me, but he does look very cute. Tell him I know what it is to have these crazy humans dress us up. Mama says she enjoyed reading about your day and wishes she had your furniture assembly skills!
Head taps to Buddy and Cheryl,
Lucy
Aw, I love the picture of the chipmunk and his huge cheeks! Such a good shot! Buddy The Elf is adorable, too! I had a dog [named Buddy!] and I had a superman costume for him to dress up in at Halloween, and antlers for Christmas. He didnt like them either, but I got my picture! :)
I actually like that rainy day effect. Very artistic.
I remember that weird feeling of being an empty nester and completely free to do your own thing. Enjoy! You deserve it! You earned it.
I remember the squirrels always getting to our bird feeder. We had to get a plastic dome to put on top.
Hope your new feeders work, Cheryl. I just sent you an email with my thoughts about this...
We had your rain a couple of days ago--but today was gorgeous.
Thanks for your kind words.. I appreciate them SO much.
Hugs,
Betsy
good for you. now make a looong bucket list and keep adding to it. it helps your daughter adjust to college too to know you are keeping busy and not just moping around. I love museums and shopping. Travel is number one on my bucket list.
Love the photo of the fat-cheeked chipmunk. Is your yard full of acorns this fall? Ours is. Ken said he's never seen so many, and he's spent hours trying to keep them raked and piled elsewhere. I'd be too cowardly to try assembling a piece of furniture, so I do admire your skill at it. Molly thinks Buddy look gorgeous in the Santa outfit.
At first being an empty nester can have its ups and downs, but the more you get used to it, the better it gets!
Looks like you had a great Rainy Saturday.
Atta girl, making the most out of a rainy Saturday! Love the bird feeders! Buddy looks cute in his new bandana... hehehe
The shot with rain pouring came out dramatic!
I like your photos. I like the dog with the scraf on but I know he doesn't like it. I never saw a dog that did like wearing things.
Your dog look so cute with the scarf. Surely, he did not like it. I'm sure he was trying to take it off.
George: As the saying goes, might as well laugh as cry, so I think that pertains to rainy days as well! So shopping (more like browsing) made the rainy day fun.
Lucy the Cat: See, I can certainly sympathize with you, what do our humans think by dressing us up?? FYI, the furniture assembly was cancelled, due to very poor quality of the product!
Tori: Glad you stopped by. Poor Buddy, last year Ashton got him a costume for Halloween, a hotdog!
Kay: This empty nest stuff is getting easier now. I think I was so used to schedules of others, now its our time!
Betsy: Thanks for stopping by. You are in my prayers.
Lin: Thanks for all your encouragement. We hope to get to St. Lucia one of these days and now with no one to "worry about" we can go for two weeks and have a wonderful time! Course that takes money...Mark and I plan on visiting an art museum next and some more hikes...the list is growing!
Aunt Jean: We don't have as many acorns this fall as we did last fall. Last fall we had so many on the ground it was like walking on ice in spots. The new feeders are filled and hanging so keeping the fingers crossed! The assembly project was a bust, very poor quality so I gave up.
Linda Reeder: Thanks for stopping by. Now I have the time to read books any time I want, come and go as I please and enjoy new adventures!
Tes: Thanks for the comment about the rainy day photo. Unfortunately here in a month or two the rain can be freezing rain or sleet, so I shouldn't complain. Buddy probably is embarassed that so many people have seen him in his Santa bandanna LOL.
Abraham Lincoln: Buddy doesn't get dressed up very much. I feel sorry for little dogs wearing dresses and boots though. I promised Bud I wouldn't doll him up anymore.
Unstoppable Spirit: Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your comment. Yes, I think Buddy was about ready to tear off the bandanna.
Loved the results of what would be a wasted day!
Sounds like a great day! I love the Christmas Tree Shops, but I hate putting furniture together! I also got a great deal on a stand there and it was a nightmare to assemble!
Great deal on the bird feeders, but I love chipmunks. Wish we had some here. I feed the squirrels on the ground and then they stay off of the feeders. We just started feeding peanuts again (we stop in the spring, so the baby birds won't eat them).
Love Buddy's bandana!! He looks ready to go.
