Fourth of July or staycation day #4

Sweet memory. Courtney (my oldest) and Ashton (the youngest) at Popham Beach. Courtney was about 15 and Ashton just 3. Courtney had this photo enlarged for Ashton a while ago. Its perfect!

We had a nice holiday. We visited friends earlier in the day and decided to take a ride to Popham Beach. We were the only ones there at that time of day and it was so peaceful. The sky changed colors for us, giving us our own fireworks display and the noise of the waves was lulling. I thought how very lucky I was to live in a country that has so many freedoms, where I can come and go as I please, do as I wish, enjoy holidays, visit friends and family wherever and whenever I wish, celebrate what and how I wish, and just how very fortunate I am.

Mark has told me that although he served in the Navy for twenty years and grew up in a Navy family, has traveled to many countries and many duty stations and been on Med Floats, there was nothing as wonderful to him as coming home on leave to visit his family and smelling the salt air of Maine!

Since my motto is "try something new each day" I figured sticking my feet into the ocean would be that day's. Its been two years since I have done so, and then it was in Jamaica where the water is at least 50 degrees WARMER! Therefore I will wait to do so again when we go to St. Lucia.

The ocean off the coast of Maine IS a bit of a shock, isn't it? I don't know how little children play in the water as if it's lukewarm. Great shots at Popham Beach.

Gorgeous photos, as always!

I agree with Mark...there is nothing in this world like the smell of the Maine salt air. It is the best of all...

looks like a fun day. some of the most spectacular fireworks I've seen were not made by man...
