Ashton brought home her cap and gown this week. It really hit home to me that the "big day" is fast approaching. How many times I have thought in the past "oh I have her here at home for four more years" "gee, three more years til Ashton graduates", "goodness, two more years and she will be out in the big world" and then this past September, "oh my gosh this is it" and finally, two weeks from today at this very moment Mark and I will be part of the Class of 2009 parents as we march into the high school gym for the Grand March! Ashton will be a newly graduated young lady. I have a lump in my throat and tears welling now!

Ashton modeled her cap and gown for me.

Last night the Senior class was honored at a dinner given by the local Rotary Club. I remember attending many years ago with my classmates. Ashton had a very nice time and enjoyed hearing stories from one of the Rotarians who is 103! I am glad she appreciated the evening. We are so fortunate to live in a small town that honors each years' Senior class. Her classmates will be treated to a cook-out in another week given by the Masonic Lodges. Next Sunday evening after Baccalaureate the Seniors will also be honored at an Alumni banquet. Its a whirlwind of activities and I am very pleased that Ashton has chosen to participate in all of them.

The first photo of ladyslippers was taken on our Wednesday evening hike. The colors are gorgeous. It seems the beauties are popping up everywhere now. The second photo is "ahem" of my personal collection on my front lawn! They have been slowly appearing the last week or so.

Yesterday I took my camera to work with me. These blossoms were so full and I was treated to the sighting of a monarch butterfly on one of the blossoms. How lucky was that?

And speaking of butterflies, I took this photo about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday before work. There is a very thin skim of ice on the birdbath. I am not making this up! We had temps overnight down into the 20's-30's. Yesterday we were treated to 80's as well as again today. Thats the weather in Maine for you!

What a collection of incredible photos! I love those lady slippers.
Ashton is such a lovely young lady. What a proud moment it will be to see her begin a new part of her life and celebrating what she's accomplished so far.
The cap-and-gown moment must be very powerful, Cheryl. Whoa.
Love the photos of the clusters of lady slippers. Amazing. And the butterfly on the flowers? That's an award-winner.
