I was awakened early this morning by Ashton who loves to surprise people with gifts. Her surprise was a wonderful early Mother's Day gift and card, as Ashton will be in South Carolina for the next 9 days. The pretty polka-dotted bag is for my knitting. I shall fill it with the yarn for her afghan.

Ahem, all of the assorted bags shown here are Ashton's. She is going to Myrtle Beach with friends for a well-deserved vacation. There is also a laptop bag behind one of the totes, couldn't fit all the bags into one photo! The photos below show Pat, her host and driver and Eric trying (desperately!) to fit in all the stuff pictured above. I think a comment was uttered that Ashton had far more than the other three people did combined! This gal does NOT travel lightly. However in her defense she is the most organized person EVER. She has lists of what to pack by category and checks everything off as she packs. She loves lists. She makes lists all the time for any event or occasion. Martha Stewart would be proud!! Ashton also packs WAY ahead of time, something she did not inherit from me. I have been known to pack an hour before leaving for a trip and not unpacking for days after returning home.

Here is a photo of the merry travelers. With alot of pushing and squeezing they all managed to get into the very crowded car and headed towards a much warmer climate at 2 p.m. They will arrive early tomorrow morning (around 2:00 a.m.) in Fredericksburg, Virginia. They have reserved a room there and plan on sleeping until around 10 a.m. tomorrow and then off to a Nascar race and on to Myrtle Beach. Ashton gave me a lesson in texting and I have received no less than 9 texts already from her. She called me about 9:45 and they were in Delaware. Bon Voyage Ashton!

The polka dot bag will be perfect for your knitting, Cheryl! I hope Ashton has a great week in Myrtle Beach, with lots of sunshine.
Saturday night update: Ashton had a fantastic day today-she and her traveling companions are at the Nascar race (Darlington) She said it was very hot but she was having a great time watching Jimmie Johnson race. Two a.m. Sunday should be FINALLY at Myrtle Beach. The race was a planned detour.
That's a perfect gift for you, Cheryl. It's just gorgeous. Ashton has terrific taste. I know they'll all have a great time. Have a wonderful Mother's Day! I still don't know how to text message.
It would be interesting to know just how much of the stuff Ashton takes with her when she travels GETS USED. I'm an over-packer myself, and I bring home clothes I didn't touch while away, but this girl has me beat by a mile! Hopefully she's in Mytle Beach now.
Are they going to strap Gram to the roof for the ride back??? I got play by play via text of the race last night!!!
Quick update from Ashton: We got to Virginia on Saturday morning around 2 AM for a brief rest. We headed out around 9 and got to Darlington around 4. We watched the race and headed for Myrtle Beach where we arrived at 3 this morning. I am exhausted. Swam in the WARM WARM WARM ocean today and ate dinner at a funky restaurant called Dick's Last Resort. We plan to take a helicopter ride, go go-karting, and PARASAIL this week. Pictures and more to come soon!
Ahhh to be young again and able to survive on little sleep!!! She's a heck of a lot braver than me to go up in a helicopter (lots and lots of pictures I hope) not to mention parasailing!! Sounds fun!
