A few photos...

About a week ago I saw a humungous woodpecker on the suet feeder. I soon discovered it was a pileated woodpecker. "It" spent several minutes "pecking" away at the base of a pine tree and every so often it would twist its head around. I finally spotted why, on a nearby telephone pole perched another pileated woodpecker! It soon joined its companion and I was fortunate to get some photos as well as video. I have never seen two pileated woodpeckers together, and haven't seen one in many years. They seemed to work in unison, one on each side of the tree. They spent about 20 minutes in the front yard. What a treat it was to watch the two of them.

Buddy The Elf and I braved a near zero (with the windchill) day a few days ago to get out and walk. This part of the trail looked so pretty, untouched and almost as if powdered sugar had been sprinkled on the trees and ground. The first snowfall always is the prettiest to me.

Even though there wasn't enough snow from the first snowfall of the season to dig out the snowshoes, I grabbed my camera and captured this shot of a perennial in my garden. Even though it was cold and windy, Mother Nature's artwork brightened my day! I knew there was a reason that I never got my perennial garden cut back this fall.

I happened upon a pinecone with this fancy pattern beside it. I surmise that the wind blew the pinecone and as it "rolled" along it left the unique pattern behind. Intriguing.

Love the pine cone with the pattern trailing behind. You really do have an eye for photos, Cheryl, as I've told you before.

Love your photos. I can't believe you got a photo of such a humongous woodpecker... and then not one but TWO. Wow! There is so much beauty in winter, isn't there?
