Recently, my mother and I made a routine trip to Wally-World (greatest thing since WonderBras) and, while there, picked up some trinkets for Operation Christmas Child. When I was still in elementary school we participated in it a few times until the school decided "No. It has to do with religion. We can't associate ourselves with Christians." Same reason the annual Christmas concert no longer exists. Grr. So this year, I mentioned to my Spanish teacher that I thought we should bring it back. So, she talked to the principal, and we were allowed to do it! Yay! The mission is to fill a shoebox, or in our case a Sterlite box, with personal hygiene items, pencils, toys, candy, whatever a child would like. You then send it, along with $7, to the Samaritan's Purse, who then passes it along to a poor child in a third-world country. It's so sad to imagine seeing a 2yearold boy light up when he finds a bar of Irish Spring soap. Here in America, and I admit I do too, we take things for granted. It was such a nice feeling knowing that you helped a young child and provided them with such simple things that they appreciate so much. We chose to do two boxes: one for a 5-9 year old girl and one for a 2-4 year old boy. Here's some pictures of what we're sending:

According to the school's email this morning, 30 shoeboxes were collected and are off to brighten a child's holiday! How wonderful that so many have become involved in this very worthy project-Thank you all.

What a great project, Ashton, and what well-chosen gifts. Those two boxes will be very much treasured by two children in third-world countries, for sure.
(At first I thought your mother was writing this post, and when I got to "my Spanish teacher," I was amazed to hear your mother is now learning Spanish in addition to everything else she does!
Oh my goodness Ashton, what a great post, if I say so myself. This post was all Ashton, I must say I was surprised with the comparison of Wal-Mart to a Wonderbra!! I am very proud that she wanted to do something for others and actually got the ball rolling!
That is wonderful Ashton - that's what the Christmas season is all about - caring for others!
Wow! You are truly an amazing kid, and you are going to make 2 kids so happy!! A true giving person. We are going to do the same, thanks for the info! Love ya, you're mom didn't do a bad job raising you at all!!!!!!!!!!
This sounds like a great project, Ashton. This year more than ever, there are so many people who will need help. Good for you for lending a hand, and for taking the initiative to make it happen. That's great!
