The first photo is from our backyard. A tidal brook runs through it. Yesterday morning the banks of the brook were covered with a layer of ice. The temps were in the low 20s! The second photo is of a duck "steaming" into the brook from Cross River, from which the brook flows. The duck looked as if it was going somewhere fast! We have lots of ducks living in our backyard, along with an occasional heron. We seen little otters in the winter playing on the ice chunks in the brook. We were fortunate enough to have a doe and her little one this spring and summer meandering along the brook.

Speaking of cold, here is a wonderful project that gives me a warm feeling to be involved in! My aunt is involved in a knitting group who are working on a project that you can check out here
http://orphan.org/ Once there, under Programs click on the Red Scarf Project. I am currently about 8 inches away from being done with my first scarf. I love to knit and this project is perfect. I am using the basket weave pattern I found on this site. I used to love to sit and watch my grandmother knit, her fingers flying! I was amazed how she could talk, knit and watch tv at the same time. Now thats multi-tasking! My mom and aunts are great knitters, however I am still a "beginner" after all these years. I have made a couple of sweaters and vests in the past but thats the extent of it. I have another project ready to go, Ashton has asked me to make her an afghan using my great-grandmother Haines' pattern, to take to college in the fall. I had better get going!

It must be fun to observe the birds and animals that come to the brook. The scarf is beautiful! I've never knit a scarf and am thinking I should before long.
Cheryl I love the scarf...so pretty. Mum and I just got back from Boise where I bought some yarn and knitting needles so that she can get me started...I'm so excited!
It's getting a little colder over here in Hawaii but nothing like your backyard.
I wish I knew how to knit.
Great pictures! And what a wonderful project - good for you!
