Recently I took my nieces Elizabeth and Robyn to the new
Childrens Garden in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The new garden is based upon several books written by Maine authors. Words cannot begin to describe the beautiful garden! As I strolled about with my nieces memories came to mind of the countless hours of reading the books that the garden is based upon with my children.

There are whales that "mist" at the entrance, wonderful swings and a stunning array of flowers to greet you as you enter the garden. We spent some time in the swings!

The girls are heading into the yard of one of the houses. Note the cats on top of the fence! Each building is open for the little (and big) people to wander. There is a wonderful book barn with many books to look at and where activities are held for the children. There is an Indian Lodge, a stump jump and a real greenhouse. A clothes line awaits clean laundry, with a wash tub and scrub board to use, there are watering cans waiting to be filled at the pump and even a garden for children to water!

Elizabeth is checking out the drying building, disguised as an outhouse! The flowers are stunning everywhere one looks.

There is a pond with waterlilies, tadpoles and a boat.

Elizabeth hauled in a lobster trap complete with a "lobster"! In the background to the left there is a wonderful tree house, complete with a rope bridge to cross. Even "Auntie" tried out the bridge!

The maze was very popular.

One can row a boat, complete with foul-weather gear to put on.

The Bean Pole Olympics appeared to be off to a great start! We shall have to return soon to see what plant is in the lead. The vegetable gardens are thriving and the scarecrows are doing their job!

I will post Part 2 in a few days.

Looks like a really fun place for the kids.
I'm moving to Maine, tomorrow! No, but you really have a nice place to visit, loved the cat fence and all the activities for the kids. The Bean Pole Olympics was neat!Did you do a good job walking the rope bridge, Cheryl? I know it's safe, but even falling would be a problem! :)
This botanical garden is cute! Cheryl, I'm sure you feel young again there with your lovely nieces :-) Waiting for Part 2...

It looks like a place my grandson would like !!
Have not seen you for a l0ong time. Seemed like you have spent most of your time here.
It must be a real good place.

What a wonderful place--magical! I love the maze, flowers, swings, actually all of it. I can see how fun it would be to have some youngsters to take here, but I'd love to go anyway even though it is a children's garden. Cheryl, I hope all is going well for you and that you're feeling good.
This looks like a marvelous place for children and for the young at heart. Thanks for including us in your visit.
What a neat place and I love the reflections on the pond.
Wow, what a relaxing place! Great place for for kids and adults alike! Thanks for sharing these fantastic shots Cheryl!
What a great fence with cats on top of each post. Great pictures. I don't think there are many places like this in other states.
Awsome pictures displaying two lovely nieces and a dream-like children's garden.
I'm sure you've enjoyed the visit to the garden tremendously.
Hi Cheryl, someone or people sure have creative, imaginative ideas for a garden like this.
Its beautiful, educational too.
Love the place, and your well taken photographs says it all...its a beautiful place to spend the day there.
Love that lobster trap, ha ha.
Have a great weekend, Cheryl, stay young, Lee.
Hi Cheryl, Those are really clear photos. The motion shots take the place to a higher perspective. I would love to bring my nieces to such a wonderful place. Thank you for taking us on a tour, girl!
Looks like a wonderful place for both children and adults.
As for my visit with my Mom, everything went great. I finally figured out what was wrong with her cell phone, when two technicians couldn't get it done over the phone.
Mom had made her famous noodles with chicken, and since she thought the chocolate cake she had made the day before turned out a flub (as she called it) she got up early on Wed. morning and whipped up an apple pie. As always it was delicious. Mom will be 88 in Dec. I'll be 74 in Oct., so I sometimes feel like I'm catching up to her in age. The age difference is more like sisters than Mother and daughter. But she is one of the best Mother's around. She was gone for almost a month at my niece's in Indiana, almost down to Ky. And three of our four daughters were gone, the same day my Mother left. I told Abe, I don't think I'll handle it well when Mom passes on. I'm so use to picking up the phone and calling her when ever I want and that did I couldn't reach her, or our daughters. I felt so alone. I know, Abe was here, but it's different talking to the girls or Mom. Have a great Sunday.
What a wonderful place! My grand kids would love it there!
What a beautiful place!!! I agree that it's not only a place for children..I would love to be there too!!! Love all your photos as usual. Thank you for taking us to such beautiful places at your place.
Hi Cheryl, I went to the Botanical Gardens while I was in Boothbay. Fabulous..It is just incredible that this beautiful garden is hidden out there in the woods. We had lunch there, and enjoyed ourselves so much. You took more pics than I did, and I really enjoyed seeing them.
Hugs, Kathleen
