Here are a few photos of the inner harbor of Boothbay Harbor from our kayaking trip on the Fourth of July. Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church is a beautiful sight from both land and sea and is beautifully illuminated at night. President Kennedy attended mass there in 1963 while visiting friends nearby. The red building to the left of the Church is where lobstermen can sell their catch as well as the blue building to the right of the Church. Mark grew up in a Navy family so cherished the family trips home to Maine as a young boy. The first thing he and his brothers would do would be to rush down to the "Co-op" (the blue building)where his grandfather was the manager. They would happily fish from the long pier with their Papa.

It was such a pretty day, gentle breeze and plenty of sunshine. We put the kayak in at Juniper Point, which is a summer colony of cottages and homes, about two miles from the Harbor. This photo is looking into the main part of the harbor, there are several motels and restaurants located on and around it.

This photo is taken as we were paddling into the east side of the harbor. We natives call this part of Boothbay Harbor "the east side", then there is "west harbor" and "downtown". The building with the yellow awnings on the right side of the photo is The Carousel Marina and houses a restaurant and marina. This is where the wonderful movie
"Carousel" was filmed. Its fun to watch it and see some of the sights from way back when.

One of the many tour boats that run from the Harbor daily. There are whale-watching trips, deep-sea fishing trips, trips to Monhegan Island and seal watches and sunset dinner cruises. There is even a Reggae Cruise on Sunday nights. There are several windjammer cruises to take as well. There are boat rides for all.

This is an octagonal-shaped house located on a small island right off from the Tugboat Inn. If you click on the photo to enlarge it, to the right and above the white and red lobster boat is St. Andrews Hospital where Mark works as a Lab Tech. This the only hospital in the Northeast that can be reached by land, sea and air! It is a small community hospital and some of the patient rooms have a view upon the harbor. Mark eats his lunch down by the water when he can.

What a charming town - that last view of the buoys and calm water to the lighthouse is so calming! Mark has a view most can only dream about just minutes from work. Your watery post is just beautiful, Cheryl. PS Thanks for noticing the heart rocks in my post!

What a wonderful tour! Thank you for taking us along so we could see the beautiful sights.
It wouldn't take much imagination for those shots to have been from Norway near Toensberg on Oslo Fjord where My Honey was born.
Wonderful shots! With all of the recent heat the water looks especially nice.
Growing up in NB, we visited Maine quite often and at least every summer as I had an uncle and many cousins who lived in this beautiful State. Actually it is much like the Maritimes.
I have to admit that Bar Harbour and Old Orchard Beach were my favorite places. It has been many years since I have been there and I grew lonesome as I looked at your photos which are so beautiful, just 2 years and I will be back home......:-) Hugs
Wow---what a neat place, Cheryl... I'm sure you all enjoyed Kayaking out there... What a neat thing to do in Summer... I'd love it--and the breeze must have been FABULOUS.
Mark works at a great place.... That's great that he can get down to the river during his lunchtime....
Thanks so much for sharing... Love the lighthouse --and that strange looking octagonal-shaped house.
Hugs,
Betsy
I love kayaking so much and would do it once in a while. It's really cool especially when you do it in the open sea and you got to see such beautiful views of the surrounding area. Thanks for sharing such wonderful photos which you took while kayaking. Makes me wanna go kayaking now!
Thank you for the harbor tour, Cheryl. You captured some beautiful scenes. Makes me want to get on a boat and take the tour myself, in fact.
What a great place to live and work! Just beautiful.
what a lovely place, we stayed in a hotel on the inner harbor years ago would like to return for another visit.
You share your lovely area with us in your blog and I thank you. This is a great post. Since hubby and I don't travel and choose not to travel, we have fun seeing blogs like yours.
how pretty...
OHMYGOODNESS HOW PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my, how I would love to be transported away to Maine for a few days. I can only dream of it.
Water can't get much bluer than that, Cheryl. Beautiful place to live, it must be a great place for tourists, but it seems to maintain a small town atmosphere.
Kayaking must be such a relaxing experience for the both of you!
Hope you are feeling your best.

Oh, good, pictures from your kayaking trip. It's so beautiful there. I love how blue the water is. The church is so pretty. I love the steeple. I can only imagine what it looks like at night. The octagonal-shaped house is very interesting! What a great area to work in. Lucky Mark! Cheryl, your pictures are amazing!
Very nice scene! I would love to have a cruise trip almost immediately after looking at these pics here :-)

Happy weekend.
Wonderful pictures of your harbor!
Thanks for the great sight-seeing trip around Boothbay Harbor. I really like views of the town from the water. Boothbay is a charming town. I would certainly like to visit in person.
What a gorgeous place!! I would imagine growing up in a place like this would be a lovely lovely thing. And how could they not film Carousel here when the place looks this perfect!!
This will definitely make it in my 'places to visit' list. Thanks for sharing this Cheryl!

Wow these pics show of show of the beauty in the area. The water must have felt refreshing too.
Awesome post, Cheryl. Beautiful photos.
Looks beautiful. But I get motion sick very easy and I don't know how to swim. So I would just set on the dock and watch. LOL
What a wonderful trip! Those beautiful pics made me relax.
This looks like such a sweet place and you've captured a beautiful day.
Nice day for kayaking. Love the view of the shoreline from the sea!
Hi Cheryl, love the scenic pictures. I love boats, all boats, but will take a pass on canoes or kawaks.
Was never good at balancing myself, ha ha....
Wow! Really love your beautiful photos....bet they have fantastic seafood there, huh? Blue crabs, lobsters....
You have fun, Cheryl.....and keep well, Lee.
Ooops, typo there, should read as 'Kayaks', ha ha. Lee.
Hi Cheryl, looks like you had a great time. Great pictures.
wow! beautiful shots.... must be a great trip... :)
isn't it funny I should watch on Entertainment this week, they were talking about this guy who wrote the book about Kenndy's shooting.
Shall we have a kayaking race? I practised last summer in Australia.
The pictures turned out great. They certainly don't look like you took them on a kayak. I would imagine the water would make picture taking a bit unstable.
Hi Cheryl, I have an award for you. Pls come over & claim when u r free :-) Thx!
Dora
