A walk in the Botanical Gardens

Today was a perfect day to wander around the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. We have a family membership and visit the gardens several times a year. I've decided that I will try to visit there every couple of weeks or so, as there are always new blooms and blossoms.
An Orchid Primrose.

A Klondyke Rhododendron.
A Kentucky Lady's Slipper.
One of my favorite parts of the Gardens is the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses. I could spend most of my time right here.

These are named "Yankee Doodle"!
This past weekend was the annual Ernie Egan Rhododendron Festival but unfortunately we had heavy rains and wind over the weekend so there weren't many blossoms left to enjoy today. However the garden was still pretty in all of its "greenery".

The Burpee Kitchen garden. The Kitchen Garden Cafe has wonderful locally grown (and from their own garden) food and I treated myself to lunch.

I found a heart...this one was under the water fall in the Giles Rhododendron and Perennial Garden.
I fell in love with these Sugar and Butter Siberian Iris'.
These are called Bowles Black Johnny-jump-ups. These little blooms always bring back memories of each of my children bringing a paper cup home from the end of the Sunday School year, with a tiny Johnny jump-up planted in it.

I wandered down the Birch Allee to the Rhododrendron Garden.

I chuckled over this sign that was at the edge of the woods.

I loved the red rhododendron.

The waterfall is beautiful and I lingered nearby, listening to its soothing sound. The ferns were such a pretty green.
A Showy White Lady Slipper was the grand finale of my visit! I hoped you enjoyed the leisurely stroll today!

These botanical gardens are really beautiful! I love all the pretty blossoms! Yankee Doodle is so aptly named. I've never heard of it but it's so cute! The waterfall and little pond are so serene and lovely. I can feel my stress melt away just looking at the pictures. Thanks for the stroll!

Hi Cheryl,
I love visiting the Botanic Garden - we have a Family Membership in Denver, too. When we travel, we sometimes visit the gardens in other locales. Of course, you found a heart! I would have been diverted by the poison ivy sign!

The flowers are so beautiful. Love the pink waterlily. It looks big. The garden looks so tranquil. I can imagine the sound of the waterfall. Now I'm wishing I can have a garden like that in my backyard :)

I think I won't find any "heart" for the first time.

Yes, there is still one.

Good discovery.

I would spend time in the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses too. Looks like a great place to meditate. Is the Burpee Kitchen garden called that for the Burpee seed company? What did you have for lunch? That looks like a large place. It looks beautiful there.

Thanks for taking us along on your visit to the gardens. You got some beautiful pictures and I look forward to going back there with you. I think you would enjoy Garvan Woodland Gardens near Hot Springs, Arkansas if you ever get out that way.

What a great place for a walk, I think I would be in heaven. Lovely photos of so many beautiful flowers but the last one intrigued me. The lady slippers are hard to come by here but I found one several years ago down a wooded path in the Shenandoah's. It was a pink one, not a white like this. Thanks so much for sharing all these beauties with us.

Hi Cheryl. I'm still not able to sit at the desk for very long but I'm glad that I got to see your wonderful pictures. The bird box ones are great and you were fortunate that the bird stayed long enough. The poison ivy sign reminds me of how lucky I've been not to have gotten any on me. :)

I hope you have a great week!
