Saturday was a perfect summer's day. We drove to Bristol which is on the next penisula over from where we are and hiked on Crooked Farm Nature Preserve. The hike was a little over 2 1/2 miles long. The trail led down a cool, shady path and then opened up into a big, beautiful field.

The trail was well shaded once we entered the wooded section. The green everywhere was so pretty, must be due to all the rain we have had.

I have no idea what either of these plants are. The pinkish one was the only one of its kind.

The trail led beside stone walls. I don't think I have ever seen so many walls in one place. They were covered in velvety green moss. It makes me wonder how long the walls took to build, how the stones were brought to their places and from where did all the stones come?

And then we came to a section that was filled with ferns, ferns and more ferns!

BuddyTheElf is waiting patiently for me to get our picnic lunch set up. We sat on some rocks on the edge of a little pond and enjoyed the warmth and sunshine. Gosh, what a perfect day! Nice to get away from everyday life and its busyness and just sit outside and enjoy God's wonderful work.

The fella stayed partially submerged the whole time we sat near his "puddle".

This is the Pemaquid River that the trail eventually followed. It was so peaceful there on the bank. Mark immediately said it would be a good spot to kayak in. There is a landing nearby where we could put in either the kayak or the canoe. However, its a very long walk from the parking lot!

I spotted this blue dragonfly on a bush near the water. I have never seen such a striking color.
Again, we sat for awhile and enjoyed the day, it was still except for the birds overhead. Ah, heaven on earth!

The "boys" patiently waiting for me to catch up, I dawdle behind with the camera.

A pooped pup on the ride home!

Quite a day's adventure, and a beautiful one, at that. Great photo of the dragonfly, and the ones of Mark and BuddytheElf are priceless. That dog leads a secure life.
what a glorious day of enjoying God's handiwork. Love the photo of the pooped pup-I feel that way most afternoons until I've had a nap. thanks for taking us along on your summer adventure.
The ferns are nice to see. I wish I had better luck growing them here where I live. I also liked the Damsel Fly and the dog is so nice to see. It looks like he is tuckered-out on the way home. Nice post. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks for helping me to make history.

Glad you all enjoyed the walk on the wildside with us. These beautiful days are far and few between this summer so we try to enjoy each and every one. Soon we will be filling the oil barrel and getting out winter clothes!!
