Saturday sojourn

Saturday was another "almost" spring-like day, the temperature was in the low 40s so we headed out for a walk.
This preserve is one of the prettiest ones in my opinion. There was still snow but also alot of icy patches on the trail so it was a slow, leisurely walk. The section shown here is narrow and in the best of conditions slow going. Yesterday the trail was icy so we had to walk along the ledge very slowly as there is a sheer drop down to the shoreline below. Glaciers have left huge boulders and outcroppings through this little valley.

This photo is from a scenic vista on the trail. This is looking across to the Ovens Mouth East trail, which we hiked last week. I posted that walk a couple of days ago. This is looking down onto the tidal marsh, its low tide now.

This is looking towards the bridge that connects the east and west sides of the trail. This trail is located high up on giant outcroppings of rock and the opposite side is the easier trail as its pretty flat. You can walk across the bridge and walk the other trail as well. However the trail we were on is close to three miles long so we stayed on this side!
There! Made it to the bridge. This photo is taken from the western end of the bridge, looking back towards where we hiked in from. The tide is coming in now.

A heart made from leaves partially covered with snow.
A set of big rock hearts down on the shore line.
A stone heart peaking through the leaves in a bare spot on the trail.

One more little rock heart.
Looks like the Pileated Woodpeckers have set up camp here.

A loon in Ovens Mouth. We heard its call several times. One of my favorite sounds is the cry of the loon.
On our way home I spotted this hawk. A nice Saturday!

What beautiful country. I enjoy seeing your pictures because when I think of Maine I think of big rocks along the shore line, people boarding up their places to leave for the winter, and the Bushes.

It's nice to know people live there the year around.

That was a nice walk with great views Cheryl. Hearts seem to catch your eye as much as mine. Hawks are a favorite too!

If i have a view like this in my area, i would opt for retirement and go for these beautiful walks, admiring the nature and at the same time, to keep fit and healthy. U are indeed blessed Cheryl.. keep sharing with us. :)

I love nature walks. I've been busy so my walks have been limited to the neighborhood and a nearby park lately.

Beautiful walk, Cheryl. But--I had a chill when you talked about the ice on the trail. We were hiking one year on a mountain --and came upon heavy ice across the trail ---with nothing to hold onto and a huge drop straight down the mountain on one side... I seldom put my brakes on totally--but I refused to try to get across that ice. We had to turn around.. It scared me to death!!!!

The woodpeckers have really destroyed that tree haven't they????? Wow!!!

Thanks for taking me on your hike with you.
Hugs,
Betsy

So glad to see Wanda was here as I was going to suggest you check out her blog. She is one of my best blogging buddies and enjoys nature as much as you....
This scenic walk is absolutely beautiful....do you have to drive very far to reach these places you have taken us too or are they close by your home.
You live in a beautiful area for sure.......so enjoy the walks, thank you for sharing....:-) Hugs

I really like the walk, though a bit too cold for me.

I was thinking it looked almost a little warm there until I saw the frozen sheets of water. It still looks so pretty with the sun. I can't believe you found all those hearts...again! Your pictures are gorgeous as always. Also, the pics of the loon and hawk are really good. I know from James that those can be hard to take.

Not that I am jealous mind you, but if I had such beauty near where I lived I would be Mrs. Wonder Photographer too. You amaze me with your camera eye. These are wondrous.

Surprised to see that there's still quite a thick patch of snow here and there. I thought the snow would be pretty much thinned out or melted. The changes are awesome Cheryl. Love all the pictures you posted.

Wow! Yes, thanks for the walk through the woods pictured through your eyes. I never get tired of looking at the places you hike. I've never heard of a Loon. I'll have to look that one up! It's amazing how you find so many heart shaped items! Just beautiful! Thanks!

That hawk and Pileated woodpecker holes look nice to me. The icicles looks colder than a leftover turkey leg the day after Thanksgiving.
