Isn't this an amazing "heart"? I found it on a tree yesterday.
Since a couple of big storms (rain for us here on the coast with 2 to 5 inches predicted)were predicted for several days later this week, Mark and I figured we had best get out and walk while we could. Monday afternoon we walked on the Preserve next door. Thank goodness Mark is so very patient, this is what I found when I caught up to him. I of course was lagging behind, snapping photos all around. He is a most patient man and found a fairly dry tree trunk to relax against. BuddytheElf was busy trying to retrieve sticks from the brook so he was entertained while he waited for me to finally catch up!
This photo was taken from the trail, looking at a stream that runs into the marsh behind our home. Its amazing that there is still much ice in the tidal brook.

Some parts of the trail were still snow-covered, especially on the trail that goes through the woods. In the above photo the meadow where the trail begins and ends is mostly snow-free. After today's rains I am betting there isn't any snow left out in the woods.
I snapped this photo from the bridge as we walked home. Such a peaceful scene to view as the day ended. The clouds look "softer" these days so it gives me hope that yes, spring will come someday.
Yesterday afternoon we drove six miles to town where we hiked another of our favorite trails, Penny Lake. Mark is way up there at the top of the hill, to the right. Of course I am always waaayyy behind as I am constantly searching for the perfect photo op!
Yep, there is my patient husband waiting for me-again! The preserves have benches placed strategically here and there as I suspect they know my husband has to wait ALOT for me.
This trail is located right in town. Its near several businesses, a church and the schools as well as a retirement community. We are so very fortunate to have such wonderful places for everyone to enjoy. This trail is unique in that it is handicapped accessible.
This was taken from the bridge and looking to the upper left is a church.
From the top of a hill you can look towards the spire of another church as well as the entrance to the downtown area.
And the trail runs very near the retirement community.
As well as the local schools and the YMCA. The school cross country team uses the trail to practice on. We love living in a small town!
Ashton actually took a few minutes to sit down and visit with us last night after returning from classes. She has been busy getting ready to start another college with courses to be taken through the summer as well as keeping up with her current school. We are delighted to have her living at home with us this spring semester. I am not quite ready for the empty nest.

I really need to go for a walk but between all of the rain, tomorrow's snow and my bad back I'll have to settle for looking at your nice pictures for now.
Cheryl you live is such a lovely place and have a wonderful family, I love post like these....:-) Hugs
Really Cheryl, I love the walks and trials u posted here.. really! i imagine myself going along the same trial and witnessing those serene sights :)

It's so nice to see your home again and your beautiful area. It's starting to get warmer here in Hawaii. Tourists were actually complaining about the cold.
It looks like a place I would not mind living at. A kind of wilderness around you with all the warmth of home.
Thank you for again taking us along on your hikes. I enjoyed the scenery so much.
I really like the heart you found Cheryl and I enlarged your photos to take in all of the distant views, lovely! Lovely home and family too!
Hello Cheryl! You shots are very nicely taken. You're like a NatGeo photographer!
Mothers like us can't help but treasure moments when family are all together! You got a lovely family!
How nice to feel the cool white snow sporadically over the woods thus cooling off our scorching heat here. Quiet and peaceful place. tQ
A tree with a heart, amazing!!
Hopefully it is not belonged to someone else. LOL.
The more I read, the more I want to go walking with you, and Mark.
You have a beautiful little corner of the world that you call home. Your pictures are great and I love the coziness of family enjoying each other all warm and content while it's nippy outside. Great post Cheryl!
The photo from the bridge onto the water is my favorite. Great picture! Your family night looks warm and homey.
dang, why don't I live in that pretty too?????? That shot off the bridge is SO perfect :)
Like the heart on the tree, looks like you could knock on the middle of it and a little fairy would open a door.
It's always fun to have a family night.
I hope you both had something warm to drink when you got home.
What a great set of photos! And what a nice story to go along with it. I really wanted to be out walking the trails of Maine with you and your patient husband. He'd have to be patient with me too with so many beautiful photo ops. Photographically I really liked the icy stream and the reflections in the river. But I enjoyed the entire photo essay immensely. Thanks again for sharing!
Settling in for a winter's evening. Looks cozy. With our early spring it's hard to imagine it's still winter in so much of the country.
Hi Cheryl, out of curiosity, how big is that Nirvana where you live?
I mean the forest? From your outstanding shots, looks like on a clear day can see forever, ha ha.
Would be nice have a Palimino or a Pinto horse. go riding.
I love that Lake....bet 2nd cast I grab a large Bass, huh?
And your home looks very cozy....Cheryl, I noticed framed picture in bottom pic over your beautiful mantlepiece....of a couple.
Was it you and hubby doing the Argentina Tango? Ha ha.
Love your previous posting pics.....
I would be very surprised if hear anyone living where you are has stress or high blood pressure, ha ha....Any Sakuras growing? Cherry Blossoms,*wink*.
Have a nice day, you stay beautiful, Lee.
thanks for walk photos-what a lovely place you live.
Thanks for taking us along on your walk. I'm glad you lag behind to take pictures, but it is nice that you have a patient husband!
Hi Cheryl, I love going on your walks with you. That one picture of the water, bridge in distance and reflections is fabulous!!!!
Hope you don't get too much rain--nor flooding.
We're having a wonderful time in Arkansas--but it's passing by too quickly. The weather has been great considering the fact that it is snowing at home.
Hugs,
Betsy
It's always fun to go on a walk with you. I suppose all women enjoy seeing each other's homes and family. I'm waiting for my new brick red sofa to arrive.
Hi Cheryl,
I enjoyed going on the walk with you, Mark and Buddy. :) The trails look wonderful! You took some great pictures as always. Darn that Mark for making me look bad! I just don't have that kind of patience for James' picture taking when I'm out with him, but I'm inspired to do better. I love the pic of the water reflecting the big beautiful trees. It looks so peaceful. Your home is so warm, cozy and pretty! I think it fits you perfectly!

Our husbands are the same, they are so patient while we snap our photos. My husband joke, the Prime Minister will send me a bill.
Hi Cheryl. Funny thing is, snow is so precious to San Franciscans that whenever someone brings back a chuck of ice back from their trip from Lake Tahoe, everyone goes gaga over it. And here you have miles and miles of snow. My daughter's teacher went skiing a couple of weekends ago and he brought back a cooler of ice to show to his students. My daughter says everyone was so intrigued by it.
Cheryl,
I'm glad Ashton is living at home with you. I wish you best with her college courses.
Your walk looked like it was a lot of fun. The tree with the heart-shape in the trunk was amazing. Have a great weekend.
Hello Cheryl
To say that man loves you is an understatement lol
In one way he respects your need to have a record of the time you spend together but then he could just be tired and you give him opportunities for a sit down lol
Take care
Cathy
Lovely home, Beautiful family! I love those relaxing walks and the trails posses a certain primitiveness that is beautiful! Would love to walk there with you! :)
