Now these are BIG icicles!

Last Saturday Mark and I headed out on a snowshoe adventure to check out ledges that are in the woods nearby.
The ledges are just beautiful with their winter coat of ice. The sky was simply stunning.

This is one of my favorite photos. I love the beautiful blue of the sky contrasting with the ice.
I call this one "the wave".
Here the tree looks as if its trying to hold back the wall of ice.

I was fascinated by the green fern trapped beneath a thick layer of ice. You can see the ridges around the leaf on the right side of the photo, almost as if the leaf was caught in movement.

Yours truly.

We headed back through the woods and around the marsh behind the house. The layers of ice were left on top of the marsh by the receding tide. It looks very peaceful at Wildcat Creek!

Hello Cheryl
those are fabulous photos - I had a quick look at the one of you and nearly died - you had nothing on your hands. Don't you feel the cold??
Take care
Cathy

Oh, Cheryl, the ice is amazing! I love the picture of the green caught under the ice. All the pictures are great. I like the tree holding back the ice. :)

Stay warm!

Love them all, but especially the "wave" and the ferns. I don't understand how the ferns have managed to stay green, though. Sheer grit, I guess.

I am impressed with your pictures. You did an excellent job getting the good angles so we could see the icicles and the size of the ledges. Very nice.

Wow Cheryl, Now that is PRETTY... I love seeing the ledges all covered with snow and ice. Just GORGEOUS.

Great picture of you with your snowshoes. I notice that you didn't have gloves on. Didn't your hands get cold??? I have a hard time wearing gloves too when I hike..

Thanks for sharing these gorgeous pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

Very pretty. It is my goal to bring my wife to Maine some day. I especially like "The Wave" and the frozen fern.

Cathy: I did have gloves with me, they were in my pocket! I am notoriously famous for not wearing them as I am constantly taking photos! And of course being a Mainer I am somewhat cold-resistant!

rainfield61: Hmmm...white mustache? Now that is a different perspective!

Lucy the Cat: Glad you enjoyed all the ice photos. The ledges rose over us a good 10-18 feet, it was hard to get a good shot of it all.

Aunt Jean: I think the green is definitely a Maine thing-true grit! They are encapsulated so well I guess in the ice.

TechnoBabe: Hi! Glad you enjoyed the ice show!

Linda: Glad you came by. There is much in nature that we don't always have an opportunity to see so I couldn't resist visiting the ledges.

Betsy from Tennessee: So glad you enjoyed. I did think of you and George while we were there! I take my gloves off constantly to take photos and have chapped hands to show for me!

Bull Rhino: Thanks for coming by. Glad you enjoyed. A trip to Maine for you would be great! So much to see here, ocean, mountains, Acadia National Park, etc.,etc.

Winter is slowing going away for spring to arrive. The first couple of pics look like frozen waterfalls. The gradual thawing of the snow reveals some really awesome landscape.

Lin: I think Mother Nature has beauty for all of us to enjoy no matter what the season, its up to us to find it.

Rose Belle: I was so amazed by the thickness of all of the ice on the ledges. I must go back when it thaws (whenever that might be!) and see whats under all that ice.

Bernie: Thanks for your nice comment. Hope you are warm and cozy! Have a lovely week ahead!

Patty: I wonder if these icicles would qualify for the Guiness Book of World Records?!

Samantha Clarke Photography: I tried to steer clear of the icicles, they could do serious damage. And yes, I did have a blast! Free fun in my own neighborhood!

DUTA: The day was fairly warm, in the 20s and the ice just sparkled in the sunlight. It was fun to explore!

Deb: Thanks for coming by! I am off to check out your very intriguing blogs! Please come back again.

Thanks for taking us along on your snowshoe trip to check the ledges. The ice is both truly amazing and truly beautiful.
