A memory and projects

Ashton recently changed the look of our blog. The saying is from one of our favorite books, "Love you forever", a book that probably was read over what seems like hundreds of times! Ashton could recite the book by heart. The photo she chose is a favorite of both of us. She was 6 weeks old at the time.

I found this silver baby cup today along with a baby fork and spoons. These tiny items were long ago gifts to a baby who has grown into a wonderful young lady. A young lady who is planning on attending college to become a nurse in the fall. Where did the time go?

These skeins of yarn, the colors chosen by Ashton, are to become an afghan for her bed at college. I am going to knit the afghan using my great-grandmother Haines' pattern. My mom made me a red, white and blue afghan which covered my bed in college, using the same pattern. She also knit each of my children an afghan, all of whom cherish their special afghans. So the challenge is on to get the afghan done before the end of August! I am in the midst of knitting a scarf for myself then I plan on starting on the afghan, I don't believe I can juggle two projects at once!
Another project that I am looking forward to starting is to knit a sweater for myself. I have "challenged" myself to knit a sweater like the dark blue one on the cover of the knitting book. I knit two pullover sweaters years ago but have only knit scarves lately. This yarn is called "Cherry Chip" which sounds yummy to me.

Love the photo, Cheryl, even if I did take it! Gee, it seems as if Ashton was a baby about three years ago. Also love the colors of yarn you've chosen for her afghan. It'll be a beauty, and isn't it great that Grammy Haines' afghan pattern lives on? The sweater knitting will come, definitely. It's so easy to lose confidence in these things, but once you tackle the project, you'll be "getting back on the horse," or whatever the saying is that means we never forget, although we think we do.

Hey, I got her that silver cup while on my honeymoon in Florida!! WOW, hard to believe its been 17.5yrs! The afghan will keep her warm, and remind her of the love that's in it for her. I am still shocked that she's going into nursing, and she's going to be a darn good one. You've done a great job raising her the first few years basically by yourself, and the last few having the love, support (and hand-out of money )of a dad like Mark! That is a young lady that is going to go places!!

I love the new look - it's great!

The silver and cup are adorable...Ashton chose a momentous day to come into the world! :D And soon she'll be taking another momentous step. The afghan will keep her warm, and warm her heart!

Aunt Jean, Ashton had this photo in her photo album (she had a spell of wanting baby photos of herself when she was about 14)and she had it framed for me for Mother's Day this year. I was pleasantly surprised when she did the blog over and used the same photo! Obviously it means as much to her as it does me (and you!).

Margaret, I had forgotten that you got the cup on your honeymoon! And how wonderful it was of you to think of her while you were in Florida. And thanks so much for the kind words, it sure meant alot to Mark, or as he is known in this household "the ATM", especially by Tun!

Cheryl, I love your new header. I'll Love You Forever was one of my favorite books and I've given a copy of it to both my children as well as to several friends. It makes me cry EVERY time I read it. I just can't help it. I don't know why but I do.
I love the idea of making that afghan for Ashton. What a treasure it will be. She will love you forever.

Kay: Ashton gave me my very own copy of "I'll Love You Forever" so that I could always have my own treasured book.
