Another fun tradition (at least for us)

I know, I know, you all are probably wondering "Now what"?
This is another favorite tradition that Ashton and I have. As the days are growing closer to her high school graduation day and the big life-changing step into the college years, sweet memories are coming faster and faster to mind. So in order not to be constantly crying over the nest becoming empty, I decided to re-visit some happy times with her and the cups are a perfect start.
She picks out a seasonal "theme" cup-and yes did so as recently as this past Wednesday. The cup saga started when she was an "itty-bitty" as my mom would say, spying a pretty, sparkly cup that was the perfect size just for her. Having two much older big brothers seemed to make her want certain things that she didn't have to share with Courtney and Benjamin.
This cheerful cup is her latest acquisition. We "just ran quickly" into Target and there it was, the Valentine cup!Ashton had to have a penguin cup as there was a period of time when she loved, loved, loved penguins. That phase was inspired by one of her favorite books, "Mr. Poppers Penguins", a book that was a favorite bed-time read for the two of us. Of course a Halloween and Santa cup are cheerful additions to the collection. I find this monkey cup is my favorite one. Its just so cute! I can see why a little girl wanted a special cup just for herself all those years ago. I think everybody needs to have something "special" for themselves, it doesn't have to be expensive, gawdy or popular, just something that makes one feel good!

This is such a lovely tradition. I'll have to mention it to my daughter. I love the idea of looking at the cups and seeing all the memories. The cups are adorable.
