Lady Slippers

We hiked a trail this afternoon and Mark spotted the second group of ladyslippers to be found this season.
This was the prettiest pink shade.

These appear to be yellow in color.
The above photo was taken yesterday, May 5th at Acadia National Park where we spent the day. These yellow ladyslippers are the first sighting of the spring, the earliest I think I have ever seen them.
This photo was also taken in Acadia at the Wildflower Garden. I will post more about our visit to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park later. I just wanted to share the lovely ladyslippers with you all! Now it's official-SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!

I don't think I've ever seen a lady slipper. Do they grow wild in the forest or just in planned landscaping? Do they come from a bulb?

Cheryl, These are fragile beauties. They do grow at my altitude but are not easy to find.

I too have never seen lady slippers before. I love their name! What a pretty place. A wildflower garden sounds like a wonderful place!

I hope guys have a great weekend coming up. Also, in case I don't get a chance, Happy Mother's Day, Cheryl!

I've never seen a ladyslipper before. I wonder if we have them here in California. Btw, I just love the flower in your header. Is it a peony?

Oh wow!! These flowers are gorgeous. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough but I've never seen these before. They have a 'venus fly trap' kind of look to them from a distance though, don't they. Wonder if these grow wild or can we have them in our gardens.

It has been a very long time since I have seen a lady slipper. We used to see them occasionally in the woods where I grew up in Oregon, but they were much smaller than these. And of course, they are very special.

I don't think I've ever seen lady slippers in southern Maine earlier than June (early June). I'm amazed that you've seen some already. But then, lilacs are blooming much earlier than usual this year in our area. The yellow ones are quite rare, I think. I've never seen a yellow one "in the flesh."

Thanks for posting your photo. It does look like my flower. except mine's black.

Beautiful images. I look forward to your visit to Bar Harbor. That's a favorite port when we have been there numerous times via cruise ship. Ah, the lobster!

I'm glad I found your blog.

We had lady slippers in our yard when we lived in the mountains of North Carolina. They are beautiful plants. I visited Acadia National Park many years ago -- the scenery is spectacular.

I LOVE Bar Harbor! Actually, I love Mt. Dessert Island all together. We took our most favorite vacation together ever driving through New England and into Acadia National Park.

Thank you so much for these pictures, they are bringing back Happy Memories!
