Bar Harbor Day #1

Last week we took a short trip to Bar Harbor, which is located "down east", to me its "up the coast"...but anyhow...off we went on a gorgeous spring day. The first stop was at Moodys Diner . After having a delicious and homemade breakfast (and one of homemade doughnuts) we were off on the next part of our trip. These cabins have always caught my eye as they are so pretty in their pastel colors.
Bar Harbor is one of the most beautiful places in Maine. Its about a three hour drive from here and a beautiful one. We go through gorgeous Camden and through pretty little coastal villages. When we arrive in Bar Harbor we always head to Acadia National Park and drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain. "I'm on top of the world" goes through my mind when I am there. This is where the first rays on the sun hit the eastern seaboard. I've never been able to get up THAT early to experience it but I have it on my to-do list!
I found a lichen heart on one of the paths on the summit.
And here was a beautiful little violet growing through a crack in the pathway that circles the summit.

We watched a storm moving in and around us. This is overlooking Frenchman's Bay. When I saw lightning flash across the sky we knew we had better get to the car, not the best place to be in a lightning storm!
We took a stroll through downtown Bar Harbor. The season hasn't started yet and we had the luxury of not having to wait in line to get into a restaurant. We chose Geddy's. What a fun place to eat!
Beer served in a brown paper bag.....
My taco salad was served in a hubcab!

We got to color on the placemats, something I've always wanted to do.

Even Mark got in on the fun. Notice the artwork behind Mark! I will do another post later on about the rest of our trip.

Hi Cheryl,

James and I hope to drive through Maine, etc. at some point. We've always heard how pretty it is. Moody's diner sounds like a must! Frenchman's Bay is beautiful! I love that second picture of it with the stormy sky.

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

We visited the Port of Bar Harbor, Maine, many times while on board Splendour of the Seas. We always tendered ashore and had lobster for lunch, walked the downtown streets, and took lots of pictures. It's a fabulous place! Thanks for bringing back those great memories.

What wonderful photos - I felt as though I was along on the trip. Since I have Grandchildren, I've really gotten into coloring placemats myself! Those hearts are showing up all over the place! I love the Lady Slippers on the previous post, too.

Yes, I see that art work behind Mark. Good you have him seated facing away from it.

I want to go downtown Bar Harbor. I was in Maine briefly on a tour. I'd love to return.

Sounds like it was a wonderful day.

I've only been up to Maine once and that was over 30 years ago when we lived in RI for a while. Thank you for taking us on such a lovely tour. Your photos are great and your post very interesting. Geddy's sounds like a fun place to go. I'm going to keep that on my list.

Hi Cheryl, Wow--what a fabulous day trip you two had... I would love that trip...Being on the top of the world is my kind of place. I'd definitely be up there at sunrise... I'm not a morning person--but the sunrise at a place like that --will get me up!!!!!

Bar Harbor looks like a great place --and May is a great time to visit those tourist-type places. Like you, we don't like the crowds. Both your breakfast and dinner sounded wonderful. That taco salad looked yummy!!!!

Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see more.
Hugs,
Betsy

Thanks for the memories! I was at Bar Harbor many years ago -- I'm going to have to dig up my slides of my trip. But I do know I went to the top of Mount Cadillac and ate in Bar Harbor, but I don't think it was at Geddy's.

This is your signature finding heart shapes everywhere you go. I like the photos of Bar Harbor. Looks like you had such a nice jaunt there. Your taco salad looks huge, and how unique what it was served in.

There once was a place similar to this near where we live. If you can believe something similar exists in and among these flat cornfields.

It looks like your two had some fun times while there.

Oh. almost forgot. I used to make drawings for children's placemats and menus. I got $350.00 a week for making them. Good spending money in those days.

What a fun little day trip for you. I keep saying I've got to introduce my wife to the beauties of Maine, and I'm not talking the wall art. Fun pics.

Beer in a bag is a great idea. Your hands don't get wet from the condensation.

My firat donute was when I was a student in Canada. It tasted so good. Subsequently I found the donuts in NZ or Singapore different from that first donut. It is like first love. I seldom buy them since.

It seems you and Mark know how and where to get the best of fun and pleasure.

I greatly enjoyed the pictures of the lovely cabins, the huge Taco salad, the violet growing through a crack, and especially.. the ones with you and Mark coloring the table maths.
Keep on having a good time!

I have been here to visit your post 3 times Cheryl and was interrupted each time by different visiting grandchildren. Then I had a few days of not feeling my best!

I have always thought of Maine as a wonderful place to live, especially along the coast. I enjoyed your photos and the Heart!

The hubcap salad made me smile, very unique!

Hi Cheryl, you sure have a good eye for things or scenes others would not have noticed....
And love these places you stopped over.

My wife and I took a trip to Boston and Atlantic city few years back....and where you are it is beautiful.
Have you been to Kennebunkport? I'm sure you know who lives there, ha ha.
Have a great week, Lee.

I brought my hubby up to read this post, and he reminded me that when we were in East Bay at a little dive for breakfast, there were original Wyeth paintings on the walls. Incredible.

I spent summers with my grandparents in Quincy for about 12 years, so New England is like a second home to me. I am glad I found your blog, it feels good to see pictures and be reminded of home! :)

Howdy Cheryl
What a fabulous trip !
I have been so sad this week and visiting you really cheered me up.
My Mom is responding to her cancer treatments but her hair has fallen out which is part of it ,but I do feel sad for her so I have been reminding her of how she used to wear wigs and hair pieces, scarves etc ..... whenever she was having a bad hair day :)
She seems to be okay with looking into this again !
Anyway thank you so much for sharing this awesome trip and all the gorgeous fun photos.
Unti next time
Big Texas hugs
Happy Trails
