What One Must Take on Holiday

Where is this girl off to you ask?? A trip to Paris, the Bahamas, or even New York City? No...she is off to Eustis, "up north" as they say. Yes, all of these jam-packed bags are loaded for 4 nights (yes 4) in the wilds of Eustis. The camp has no running water, no electricity and NO INDOOR PLUMBING!! And for all of those of you who are wondering-Ashton absolutely loves it there. The little girl who always was spotless, dressed in white tights and fancy shoes loves to slip on her sweats, wear her rubber boots and actually get dirty! I have the pictures to prove it!

I am pleased that Ashton does enjoy the outdoors and roughing it. I have taken her tenting many times and she enjoyed snuggling down at night in her sleeping bag, after toasting marshmallows over the campfire. Ashton's first camping trip was about the age of 1. Ashton has enjoyed being outside with her friends so much that she took the Hunter Safety course last fall through Adult Ed so she would be prepared during hunting season. She knows how to safely canoe and kayak and loves to go fishing. Mark set up her own tackle box for her when she was 11 and set her up with her very own fishing pole. Today with so many children rarely getting outdoors anymore I am glad that I was able to share the enjoyment of outdoor activities with my children. Hopefully they will enjoy the outdoors for a long time to come.

Apparently Ashton doesn't fully understand yet that packing is the easy part; unpacking once she gets back home is the real chore! Eustis this weekend should be really beautiful.

You are so right! I absolutely detest the unpacking part. She does as well by the looks of her room, I believe she lives out of bags from previous trips! However, she is very good about keeping dirty clothes separate!

We went up North for the weekend, not quite as far up as they are, but pretty close, and it was absolutely GORGEOUS!!! The weather was beautiful, cool nights making it perfect for a campfire! Now, its the unpacking part for us UGH!!
