I had to take this photo of the biggest hornet's nest I have ever seen--and I didn't get too close, thank goodness for zoom. It was amazing to see it hanging there in the bushes. Mark and I took a hike this afternoon and as we started out I spotted it. It had to have been at least a foot high and close to that in diameter. I didn't see any of its residents, maybe they have gone south already! We had a picnic on the trail and walked about 5 miles round-trip. The foliage was pretty and the temperature was comfortable for hiking. Soon enough we will swap our hiking boots for our snowshoes....

The top bouquet was given to me today from my dear husband Mark, along with a gift certificate for a mani-pedi for my birthday. Yay!! Ashton gave me the second bouquet yesterday. She surprised me by bringing it to the office while I was working. Thanks Ashton, it means so much to me. She also made my day by giving me pear lotion, my favorite!

On Monday Mark and I went to visit my best friend and her family. I met Vicky when I moved here in my junior year of high school, 36 years ago. We may not see each other for long time periods but when we get together we pick up from wherever we may have left off and keep on going! Its always been like that, as if we have never been apart. Vicky has been a dear friend who has always been there for me during whatever crisis may have been occuring in my life. She knows me better than anyone and never judges and never says "I told you so"! We have had many adventures in our day. When she used to come for a couple of weeks each summer we always had a ritual with our kids, walking to a little beach and sipping coffee while the kids explored. But no beach visit was complete until dark when we would all sit and look for falling stars. These visits were just as eagerly awaited by my kids as they were for me. I am so very glad that Vicky and her family have "come home".

Ashton carefully picked the three pumpkins from a huge box at Wal-Mart. She purchased some princess cut-outs for pumpkin carving and I am looking forward to seeing the results. I also enjoy roasting the pumpkin seeds after the carving is done. I always looked forward to taking the kids to pick out a pumpkin for Halloween. They were so tickled to see their spooky, scary pumpkins lit at night. I am glad Ashton still wants to carve a pumpkin.

I am so excited with my find-a genuine metal lawn chair! My grandmother had a few of these and I spent alot of time in the double gliding chair that she had in the front room. I have to repaint the chair but I am looking forward to sprucing up my find-at the bargain price of $12.00!

Hmmm...is Buddy camera shy? The flowers are beautiful!! Love the chair too, I just remember how cold they were to sit on, but how comfy they are!
No, he is just embarassed to be seen out with his parents...And I forgot how cold those chairs can be-will need a nice cushion!
Sounds like a great day, Cheryl. Glad to see the Budster was up for the hike, too. Your friendship with Vicky sounds like one of those once-in-a-lifetime realtionships.
Oh wow! The flower bouquets are absolutely gorgeous! I love those friendships that stay with you forever; where you can pick up after a long time apart and still feel that same love and ease with each other.
