Take the time....

If there is any plus to having fibromyalgia, it has made me slow down and carefully and thoroughly look about me when I am taking a walk or a hike with Mark or even snowshoeing. We had the first snowstorm of any size Thursday and five inches of the white stuff fell here on the coast. So I was delighted that I could get the snowshoes out of the closet and onto my feet!Yesterday BuddyTheElf and I set off for a snowshoe expedition in our backyard. We had freezing rain after the snow stopped and everything was covered with ice. The berries looked extra cheery against the new snow and the ice that covered them was very pretty as well.BuddyTheElf doesn't mind the snow. He has been my faithful snowshoeing companion for the past six winters. Java Bean is too tiny to take along and being from Texas he hasn't really gotten used to Maine winters yet. He stays inside curled up in a soft blanket. Buddy had a grand time sniffing and digging in the snow. The trees are just beautiful in their winter coats...almost looks as if the trees were sprinkled with confectioners sugar.I spotted a heart shape in the ice of the pond...Mother Nature has given us beautiful decorations...the ice is just beautiful....little chandeliers perhaps...I was very fortunate to spot this snow heart on a branch...And even the simplest plant is very intriguing in its winter coating of snow. This makes me think of a tiny ferris wheel....A Bufflehead duck entertained me for a bit in Wildcat Creek. It seemed to be very nonchalant as it swam about....just enjoying the day as I was.I cannot count the number of times I have walked the Zak Preserve, almost daily since the winter of 2004. A couple of days ago I noticed that a stump near the trail had a heart on it! By taking my time and enjoying the beauty of the day I was given a glimpse of this heart.I spotted an ice heart on the marsh a few days ago. We had a couple nights of low temps and Mother Nature left a heart for me to find.I love this photo....its of a tiny little tree growing from a tree trunk beside the trail. It seems to say "look at me, I may not be big yet but I am here and I am going places!" Good for the little fellow!

You are amazing and so very observant, Cheryl. I love all your beautiful photos. I understand my daughter in Chicago got a good load of snowfall too.

A bufflehead! I was thinking of buffleheads one day last week. I've never seen one for real, but a guy I used to teach with showed me photos he'd taken of buffleheads in Portland Harbor. They're darned cute. Wonderful photos of your walk, and I do admire Buddy's enthusiasm for getting in there and checking 'er out.

You may be more so than you were, but I've always thought of you as a very observant person, Cheryl. Love the ice formations and hearts that you find. We still haven't had a good coverage of snow yet this winter...an inch at the most.

Being forced to slow down does have its advantages. You got some marvelous pictures on your snowshoe expedition. The berries are beautiful.

Snow and ice fascinate me as I rarely have the occasion to see them where I live. (Israel, warm country).

Slowing down gives one the feeling of being alive and the benefit of looking around and finding things (hearts, for instance).

Great pictures as usual, Cheryl!

Cheryl, such wonderful photos - I really like all the hearts you discovered - the marsh one is my favorite! Isn't it true that we often pass by things daily and not really "see" them? Glad you got out on your snowshoes with Buddy. I hiked on mine today, too.

Truly beautiful photos. You are amazing. You find love all around you. The hearts are so clear seen through your eyes. How fun to have a little companion when you take your walks. He looks like he has a blast in the snow.

How is your fibromyalgia doing these days? Is the pain decreasing?
