Brrr....its cold!

I finished cleaning up the garden today and was pleasantly surprised to find this brick that had a bit of cement in the shape of a heart on it. I shall add it to the flower garden next spring. The temperature dropped last night, down in the high teens. When I went out at 9 a.m. this morning the thermometer said 21 degrees. When Mark left for work at 5:45 a.m. he said the temperature was 18 degrees. I used to avoid going out as much as I could when the temperature dropped, however after taking up snowshoeing a few years ago I welcome the cooler weather. I actually enjoy the colder weather, I feel invigorized when I get out and take a walk. The dogs and I walked up to the little pond and found that a very very thin layer of ice covered most of the pond, except at the inlet. The ice had a lacey pattern to it.
I have dropped my camera many times but the last time I did the zoom button broke. So the dogs and I wandered around along the edge of the brook for a bit as I wanted to get a photo of an ice "heart" and had to physically walk up very close to get the shot. I now miss the ability to zoom in on subjects. Perhaps Santa will bring me a new camera this year....Here is another little ice "heart" I spotted on the edge of the brook. You can see where the tide had risen in the night by the ice along the edge. Below is a bit of our backyard. We are so very fortunate to live with a scene such as this one. The brook flows into Wildcat Creek which in turn flows into Cross River and then eventually into the ocean. There is still green grass!Buddy of course loves the brook. He will jump down into it no matter the temperature of the water, in order to find a good stick to chew on. Today was no exception, he trotted down over the muddy bank and then into the water. Java Bean is slowly being introduced to Maine weather...we wonder how he will react to snow when it comes! Tonight we are supposed to get a bit of snow here on the coast. Not enough for snowshoeing unfortunately. I hope the snow doesn't hinder travelers during this holiday season. Some parts of Maine are predicted to receive up to a foot of snow...I bet there are lots of happy skiers!Buddy contentedly dug around in the mud and found himself a good stick to munch on. This photo is taken in my backyard, it looks towards the Zak Preserve which I walk on almost daily (except during deer hunting season which is going on now) and also am the land steward of. I have to walk along an embankment however to get next door as our property is separated by this same brook. This view is looking towards the back of our home. The tide at its very highest, such as during a storm or a full moon, comes up to almost the edge of the green grass.
Wishing each and everyone of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I wonder whether the ice heart is warm or cold.

Mornin' Cheryl, wonderful post!
We are having snow, snow, and more snow up in the northern foothills. About 5 inches on the ground at this time and coming down pretty fiercely. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Hugs,

Heart and ice don't really go together. we usually say: one has a warm heart. But with the hearts you find in nature, everything goes.

You're lucky to live in such beautiful surroundings, Cheryl. Even the cold weather can't spoil this beauty displayed in your pictures.
