Saturday we took our nieces Robyn and Elizabeth to
Fort Popham. The afternoon was spring-like, breezy and a beautiful blue sky above. We even spotted an eagle circling the fort to add to the beauty of the day. We parked near the Fort and did some exploration there and then wandered down the beach toward the main beach area.

The fort was locked so I took this photo through the main gate. This is looking towards the side of the fort that faces the water.

After exploring the fort we wandered down the beach.

A former Life-Saving Station on the beach.

Always ready for a photo opportunity!

We were very impressed by the size of the tree stump on the beach and where it might have come from via the ocean.

I was delighted to see what Elizabeth had scrawled in the sand for me. After our fun afternoon we headed home but first a stop for ice cream!

The pictures are great and Fort Popham sounds like a fun time. I would love to explore it and photograph it too.
how sweet to be an auntie. being an only child, I wasn't an auntie till I got married. fun adventure.
OH Cheryl, Isn't it fun to be an Auntie????? I'm sure that Elizabeth and Robyn had a great time... The fort was nice --but to them, I'll bet the ice cream was the BEST... ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Always loved Popham beach!! We spent 2 weeks there every summer for about 8 years We rented the cottage just past the Life Saving Station. Have a lot of great memories. Thanks for posting your photo's!!
OMIGOSH SO gorgeous................
Hi Cheryl,
What a wonderful place! Yes, that tree trunk is huge and does make one wonder. This looks to be a very interesting place. You got a lot of great shots!
Such a sweet message from your nieces! I can just imagine you being a sweet, fun Auntie!
Vicki
You find the coolest places to walk, explore and take photo's, I agree with Elizabeth, Auntie rocks.
...........:-) Hugs
James: I do wish I could take photos like you so I could show the many different shapes/shadows at the Fort!
Lin Floyd: I am blessed to be an "auntie"! Its fun to take the two girls on fun excursions since my three children are "growing up"!
Betsy from Tennessee: I think we all would agree that we definitely enjoyed Dairy Queen afterwards!!
grammie g: Small world! I can see why one would love to be right there on the beach. I really loved the life saving station, such a handsome building and what a view!! Glad you came by and thanks for the comment.
Gary's third pottery blog: Thanks for coming by. This would be a great place to fly a kite!
Lucy the Cat: Thanks for your sweet comment! I take my job very seriously as an "auntie"! I was touched when the youngest niece told me to "see what I drew for you Auntie"!
Bernie: Thanks for stopping by Bernie, and leaving your sweet comment. Its fun exploring with the nieces, they are up for almost anything!
Wow, looks like all the snow has melted in Maine already but I can tell it's still cold based on how your hubby and nieces were wearing. And the tree stump, so there must of been a tree there a long time ago. A big tree, I'm guessing.
I like the life saving station on top of the building. They must be able to see very far.
interesting place to explore!
So sweet of your niece. You seem to be a wonderful aunt. I love to have fun with my niece too.
Your header is beautiful. Full of snshine.
I love reading about historical places, Cheryl. It's interesting that Fort Popham once had 36 cannons and the total view of it from the ocean was nice to see.
I would wonder too about the history of such a large tree stump and the trunks that you found on the beach. Enjoyed the post!
♥...Wanda
Rose Belle: Thanks for stopping by. Yes the snow is gone but when I got up this morning we had a light frost on the ground. Spring is determined to take her time in arriving! The beach was chilly and very windy!
Ann: I liked the lifesaving building's construction and it looked right out to sea! There are also two lighthouses off shore that I didn't post photos off.
Wenn: I could have spend several more hours exploring the fort grounds and looking for shells on the beach. Next time with a picnic lunch!
Rachna: Thank you. I miss doing things with my children so much so am very happy that I have my two dear nieces to share wonders with!
rainfield61: Thank you! Yes I agree the header photo is very full of sunshine. Its great to look at during these dull days!
Wanda: Thanks for stopping by. I enjoyed learning the history of the fort. There is a wooden fort near my home, within 10 minutes or so, that I have never visited. So that will be our next trip! I wondered if the huge tree stump was washed ashore. During the last couple of winter storms here the beach there has lost lots of beach due to erosion. The ocean is very powerful indeed!
What a cool auntie, ice cream on the way home and a great visit at the beach.
Well it's true. You do rock, Cheryl!!!
You have published some nice photos.
Your first photo brings memories of the NJ shore. Looks like a fun trip...loved the tree stump and especially the speculation of where it arrived from! Ice cream: the perfect ending to any scenario!!
I always love exploring the sea side..real exciting!
Hi Cheryl...what I can say is you guys sure have lots of fresh air...always outdoors.
I have always loved the sea....but more for fishing.
And again, you sure take good photos....
But I don't think I want to busybody into that Life-saving station after the sun goes down, ha ha.
Unless Pamela Anderson is there, ha ha.
Have fun, Cheryl, Lee.
It looks as if you had a great day to visit Fort Popham and the beach. I'm envious of that blue sky and sunshine.
Technobabe: Thanks for stopping by. Yup, pretty cool being an auntie that rocks! And stopping for ice cream on the way home helps out!
Kay: Thank you, thats very sweet!
Abraham: Thank you. Glad you stopped by and visited.
Mare: Hi! Glad you came by. And I agree, ice cream is the perfect way to end the day.
Pete: Hi. I could spend hours walking on the beach as well as exploring the rocks, looking for sea glass.
Uncle Lee: We do indeed spend lots of time outside. As the saying goes "seize the day" and we do! I didn't happen to spot Pamela Anderson anywhere on the beach. If she had been there I would have known if all the men had taken off running in her direction!
George: We are fortunate that we are just minutes from the ocean. I hope that blue skies and sunshine have finally found you!
Howdy

Oh, I really love the beach scenery!
That place looks so serene. The kids obviously enjoyed their auntie Cheryl's company. Can't hide how they see you! ha ha.. great bonding time.
You have keen eye for hearts, huh?! Nice shots.
