Graduation Day, Part 1

On June 5th the big day arrived. I woke Ashton early and gave her Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and a book of poems for daughters by Maya Angelou. Mark and I gave her the "big" gift, her laptop earlier.
It seems like yesterday that she and I decided to do a blog about the last year of high school and our last year at home together. Now the big day has come and gone. The photo above is of her marching into Class Day at 8 a.m. Ashton was the Class Historian.
The day before graduation at Teacher Awards at 8 a.m. Ashton was awarded a certificate honoring her for outstanding achievement in her mentoring program. She did two projects this year, one half of the year in a fourth grade classroom and the other in the school nurse's office. Back to school Thursday evening for more awards such as scholarships and book awards.
My Aunt Jean and Uncle Ken arrived in the early afternoon with a huge bunch of flowers. The house was soon filled with the wonderful scent of lilacs.
Some of you readers may have seen this photo before! Aunt Jean gave me a gift of a sweater, one that I have coveted and wished for ever since she showed me the pattern for it last summer. It fit perfectly and matched my dress as well, how great was that? It was nice of her to think of me on this day. Then....back to school for graduation at 2 p.m.
In this photo are Courtney, Ashton's oldest brother; Ashton, myself, Mark and Ashton's brother Benjamin. Allison and Benjamin here with Ashton. Allison and Ben came to my rescue by doing approximately 3 dozen deviled eggs for the party! They were so helpful by hurrying to our home and setting up the food table for us after graduation. They volunteered to do the deli platters, fruit and cheese trays and cake pick-ups, go to the greenhouse and generally did their best to keep Mom calm. Thursday night I was thrilled when I arrived home to find that Courtney was busy putting down the mulch that was sitting in the front yard. You may remember awhile ago I posted about the humongous pile of mulch sitting in the front yard and no time to make sure it was put down. Courtney worked a 10 hour day but knowing that I wanted our home to look extra nice for Ashton's big day, arrived and went right to work to do the job. Thanks for making the yard look great Court!
Elizabeth (the birthday girl) and Robyn.
Pat and Eric.
And of course, her dear Auntie.
And Grammy.
Mark's family who welcomed myself and my children into their wonderful family seven years ago.

Great recap of Ashton's big step in life, Cheryl, and many wonderful photos. I didn't realize Ben and Allison did so much to help prepare for the party, although I saw them working hard once they got there. Wow. And Courtney's spreading the mulch? I've done that myself several times in my flower gardens, and I hate the job. I know it must've taken him much time and effort. I couldn't help but notice on graduation day how close your children are to one another and to you and Mark. Take a bow! (Didn't realize you took that picture of your flower-arranger!)
