Back to the Childrens Gardens-AGAIN!!

My sister Margaret, niece Elizabeth and I spent a few hours today delighting in the Childrens Garden. This is my third trip and I find something new to ooh and aah over each time.

Back to the Great Hall where many fairy houses were set up. This coming weekend is Fairy Festival time in the Gardens and we were treated to a sampling....

We had a nice time enjoying the AC and admiring the many different styles of fairy houses.

FINALLY-A visit to the Childrens Garden Part 2

I finally have found a few minutes to post the second part of my nieces trip with me to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens' Childrens Garden. My last post was the first part of our wonderful day there.

I would love to have a greenhouse like this! This is located in the midst of the vegetable gardens.

There is a pump to use and the children can fill one of the many watering cans sitting on the bench. There are many plants that the children can water even!

This garden was neat....there were Chocolate Cosmos growing as well as other "chocolate colored" plants.

Later on we had to visit the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses, which Elizabeth just loves. I think she had a fun-filled day!

A visit to the Childrens Garden- Part 1

Recently I took my nieces Elizabeth and Robyn to the new Childrens Garden in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The new garden is based upon several books written by Maine authors. Words cannot begin to describe the beautiful garden! As I strolled about with my nieces memories came to mind of the countless hours of reading the books that the garden is based upon with my children.

There are whales that "mist" at the entrance, wonderful swings and a stunning array of flowers to greet you as you enter the garden. We spent some time in the swings!

The girls are heading into the yard of one of the houses. Note the cats on top of the fence! Each building is open for the little (and big) people to wander. There is a wonderful book barn with many books to look at and where activities are held for the children. There is an Indian Lodge, a stump jump and a real greenhouse. A clothes line awaits clean laundry, with a wash tub and scrub board to use, there are watering cans waiting to be filled at the pump and even a garden for children to water!

Elizabeth is checking out the drying building, disguised as an outhouse! The flowers are stunning everywhere one looks.

There is a pond with waterlilies, tadpoles and a boat.

Elizabeth hauled in a lobster trap complete with a "lobster"! In the background to the left there is a wonderful tree house, complete with a rope bridge to cross. Even "Auntie" tried out the bridge!

The maze was very popular.

One can row a boat, complete with foul-weather gear to put on.

The Bean Pole Olympics appeared to be off to a great start! We shall have to return soon to see what plant is in the lead. The vegetable gardens are thriving and the scarecrows are doing their job!
