We took a family vacation to Florida the last few days of February and into the first week of May. Originally it was to be a tenth wedding anniversary trip to St. Lucia but instead we decided to save the money ($$$$)for that trip and were fortunate enough to be offered the use of a family member's time share in Palm Coast, and two airline tickets later we had a wonderful trip to look forward to. HOWEVER, a certain young lady managed to talk her way into our trip plans and with the purchase of ANOTHER plane ticket we again looked forward to a fun time in the sun. Ah yes, sun and warmth...we all were desperately trying on last season's summer clothes and writing directions for the dog/house sitter when ANOTHER bright idea popped into Ashton's head...how about driving to Miami Beach for a few days? Why YES!

We took off at 6:45 a.m. from a cold Maine and landed several hours later in sunny, warm, heavenly Daytona. What a lucky coincidence that Daytona International Speedway was right next to the airport and we had a race car fan with us! After picking up our rental car we headed right to the Speedway.
A dedicated fan must put her hands and gas pedal foot into her hero's prints-Jimmie Johnson!

Ashton happily walked the Walk of Fame, even though one of her ankles was encased in a heavy "boot". Ah, to be young!
We left quite a bit of cash in Florida....the next posting will be of our trip to Daytona Beach and then off to the Everglades!

how fun a warm family vacation...
Well Cheryl, she sure looks like she is in racecar fan heaven. :)
I think Ashton's presence has definitely enhanced the beauty and fun of your trip.
Looking forward to your next posting.
Ashton definitely enjoyed the visit to the Speedway. The entire trip sounds like a lot of fun, and I look forward to seeing more pictures.
I'm so glad you had a nice time! It's always nice to get away, especially if the location is so different from home. But no matter where we go, as Dorothy said, there's no place like home!!
Even when the nest empties those fledglings find a way to come along! Looks like a fun trip. I bet the Everglades were lush and green.
Sounds like a dream vacation. And what's a little extra sharing with such a lovely fledgling coming back to nest a tad.
I'm glad you were able to get some serious R&R.
It's been a while since you last posted Ms Cheryl. I hope all is well at your end.
I love trips though it could be more challenging for me at times. Hope you had a great time recharging and bonding with the family. God bless and take care!
Oh WOW, Cheryl! This looks like so much fun. How wonderful that you could do the trip with Ashton. Florida is one place we've never been to. Hmmm... I'll add it to our list.
Hmm I see a cast on a foot in the very first photo. How did that impact the holiday?
So the savings were not as huge but the fun was the best!!
It is a given that while on a vacay you are also splurging but its worth it dear as the bottom line is you and your family enjoyed.

Looks like the vacation is fun for all of you and a variety. The Gators I probably might look at from a safe distance, but never hold.
Daytona would be fun.
