Snow days

Yesterday was cold here, 30s but perfect for a walk in the woods. The trees were still dressed in their white coats from the snowfall a couple of days ago.
The little brook that flows from a marsh on the Zak Preserve had ice on it!
I spotted a snow heart! This one is especially for Rainfield.
Last night Ashton put up the Christmas tree and decorated it. It was bittersweet for me, listening to her memories around each ornament. In the past I purchased an ornament for each child, based on a special event of their year. I couldn't help but think of Ashton in her velvet Christmas dress, eagerly hanging ornaments on the tree as a child. Each child would hang his or her ornaments. My two sons have their own homes to decorate but Ashton is still at home to decorate the tree. I miss the "oohs and ahhs" from little children on Christmas morning, the opening of their stockings and paper and bows flying all around the room.
Today the temps were in the 20s but Buddy and I bundled up and headed out in the crisp air. I enjoy walking in the cold. The neighbor's pond was lightly skimmed with ice.
The trail next door is still covered here and there with snow.
The creek that winds around behind our home has ice along its banks.
A wee snow heart on a branch.
The fern was still so bright and seemed to be holding up the snow. A very pretty contrast.

I lost the Christmas magic when my kids grew up, but I got it back again through my grandchildren!

You're first picture of the snow-covered pine trees is beautiful.
Christmas and children seem to go together. Decorating the tree was always exciting when the kids were at home, I still enjoy it, but it's not nearly as much fun.

Neat pictures of the snow, Cheryl... Looks COLD up there... Love seeing the ice --and of course, the snow heart... Thanks for sharing.

Aren't you glad Ashton is still home --to help with the decorations?
Hugs,

Is a snow heart hot, warm or cold?

The winter looks great with a heart.

Hi Cheryl! Wonderful winter! You're startin' to freeze over there while we have only a slight cool air on this side of the globe. Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!

Smile and always keep warm!

These photos are so beautiful! Now I wish that I would have braved the cold yesterday. I think it only reached 28F but it seems to be not as cold today.

Take more walks and show more photos. :)

Cheryl,
Thanks for the walk through the woods. What beautiful photos of the snow. You are so fortunate to already have such lovely snow. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas with the snow. Loved the photos and the walk.

Hi Cheryl, you sure you not free lancing for Nat. Geographic? Ha ha.
Holy Smoke! Everyone one of your photographs....too sinful to call them 'pics', ha ha...very creative. Each photograph tells 3 pages of what you saw thru your lens.

Love that 'snow heart on a branch'. Classic shot.

Only someone with your kind of eyes will spot that and tell a story with that photograph.
Looking at the river, my mind wondering what fish is in the frigid waters.
Love to do some fishing there.
Incidentally, I am a 'catch and release' fisherman.
Besides I don't go overboard for fresh water fish.

Have fun, Cheryl.....stay warm, stay young and have fun, Lee.

Christmas with small children is the best, isn't it? We don't have any little ones around any more either so we just make the best holiday we can and enjoy this time of life. Hugs to you and I hope you are feeling great.

Again, your photos are just exquisite. I love the areas you have photographed. Christmas traditions do change as we get older, and as life changes. I miss the Christmases of my youth, with my parents and siblings, the warmth and love of those special occasions. Now, new traditions are in the works. Hugs, Kathleen

We don't have snow and ice where I live, so I enjoy seeing it in your charming pictures.
You've found a snow heart, now you'll sure find a heart of..ice.
