Ashton Update and BLUEBIRDS!

This little bird landed in our yard on Saturday. I had to look twice, three times, maybe four times to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing! It was a bluebird! From what I understand, they are not common here in the winter, maineaudubon.org. My aunt has set me up with all kinds of neat links so that I could research this remarkable bird. I am hoping to construct bluebird boxes so that I can continue to enjoy this beautiful bird. We had two bluebirds in our backyard last summer for the first time. Another treat was in store for me on Monday, when I again spotted a bluebird but this time with a red-bellied woodpecker sharing the feeder. Another bluebird perched above on the telephone wires. I have never had this type of woodpecker before. Now for an Ashton update: Still pretty much confined to bed. She was allowed out to Eric's house for the Superbowl on Sunday but since then is back under house "arrest". Mom is one tough Warden. She worked on filing her FAFSA on-line last night and we will certainly have time to work on all the college odds and ends that need taking care of. We are not sure when she will be able to go back to school, as she has to keep her foot elevated. Trying to carry a 20 pound backpack, manage crutches and get from classroom to classroom is going to be a tough task. Thankfully she is a good student but we don't want her to get behind. Maybe next week she can attempt school. We had thought she would be right back this past Monday but I think the surgery was more than she (and I) had bargained for. I know she is getting very anxious to get into the shower. The doctor said no shower (this was on 1/30) until he sees her on 2/11! Yikes! He did say if she wraps the leg in plastic she might attempt it. We shall see...Gotta go, Ashton just telephoned me from her bed that she is ready for her breakfast....

I have to say, I saw the bluebird with my own eyes today!! I'm still jealous that you and Aunt Jean have different kinds of birds. I get the same ole, same ole. Maybe its the bird seed, I use black oil seed. Anyways...my opinion is that Ashton won't make it back until Monday, an hour out almost did her in today!!

You KNOW how much I envy you those bluebirds. I'm keeping my nose to the window.

About the birds-I use black oil seed in the winter and always have a suet cake available.
I just learned something new...attendance can be checked on-line? I can't fathom how she could carry the heavy backpack, manage crutches and sit with her foot up all day. Therefore I feel its best that she rests up the rest of the week. I will get her homework (maybe with the help of good ole Robyn)and she will certainly keep up with it. She earned "high honors" so should be o.k. with a few days off. I do think I could use more LINDT chocolate in the future as I am getting a work out as a NURSE. Thanks to my "girls" for thinking of Auntie. Here is good one-Eric just arrived here after school all day, driving here, and promptly got a bowl from the cupboard, filled it with cherry chocolate chip ice cream and THEN proceeded to take it to the Princess! Now if that is not devotion...poor guy!
