Pirates and Crayons...oh my!

On October 23rd we attended the Portland Pirates Breast Cancer Awareness Night. As a proud mom I must mention that my son Benjamin who works for the Portland Pirates organization, designed the special jersey the Pirates wore that night! I especially loved the socks the team wore....and the Pirates won the game!
My sister and her family attended the game as well and the above photo is of my niece Elizabeth who LOVES the Pirates...she wore her Pirates jersey and got her face painted before the game.
Ashton and Eric...all decked out in pink as support for Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the Pirates.
Ever since I received the diagnosis of fibro a few months ago I set a personal goal to compete in as well as complete a 5K for Hardy Girls Healthy Women. This wonderful organization has an annual 5K Freaky Fun Run and Walk as a fundraiser. So Team Crayola was born and Ashton, Robyn and Elizabeth became part of my team. We spent most of last Friday evening working on our costumes...crayolas. Sweats were the basic costume ...Ashton did the printing of "words" and Robyn and I alternated the ironing on part. It was a long process but we had fun working together.

The finished outfits.

Team Crayola left bright and early for Waterville where the run/walk was held. We stopped at a wonderful restaurant. This is "a single pancake" and I do believe Ashton's eyes were bigger than her stomach!

Benjamin drove to Waterville to support Allison who works for Hardy Girls Healthy Women and Team Crayola. Ashton finally met Bode! Elizabeth and Robyn were delighted to meet sweet Bode as well and he certainly had lots of snuggles. He was the cutest mascot ever!
Here is"Team Crayola"! Left to right are Elizabeth holding Bode, Ashton, me and Robyn. Robyn and Elizabeth won the kids contest for Best Costume. It was a great day to walk, I made it all 3 plus miles and we raised $125 for the cause. I plan on participating next year...hmm...what kind of costume should I wear?

Well, I'll be darned. I did not realize you and your team made the "Team Crayola" outifts. I thought you'd bought them with the logos already on them. Great job. Second, congrats to Ben for designing the Pirates' shirts for that game. You all "done good," as we Mainers have been known to say.

Good for the Portland Pirates and for Team Crayola! It looks as if Team Crayola had a lot of fun creating their outfits.

grammie g: Several people mentioned to Ashton that she looked good in pink hair!

Lois Evensen: The four of us had fun creating and making our costumes together...and for a great cause.

reanaclaire: It was fun to walk with my daughter and two nieces...and know that we helped a great cause.

Carol Blackburn: For a few days before the walk I was in alot of pain and thought I wouldn't be able to participate...but I gave myself a "good talking too" and did it! Mind over matter!

Linda Reeder: It was a special time indeed...we don't have a soccer team here to cheer on, but we have the Portland Pirates hockey team...wonder if I could make a huge flag like you have for your team??

Wanda: It was fun gathering up all we needed for our costumes, the organization we walked for encourages homemade, family-friendly costumes.

Betsy from Tennessee: Thank you for your kind words! The walk was both a physical and mental challenge for me...and I did it!

Lin Floyd: Thanks. Homemade costumes are the best!

Kay: Hello! I think if I participate in another 5K walk/run I will train a little more...like Art did for his race!

Rachna: Thank you. I think I will try to participate in other runs/walks for charity...a great way to be outside and to help a cause.

Aunt Jean: A-yuh....we did darn good I say! Ashton printed out all the transfers, Robyn and I handled the ironing and meanwhile Tiz was at a birthday party! We bought our sweats at Wal-Mart so minimal costs. Thanks again to you and Uncle Ken for your support-I raised $125.00! P.S. Benjamin also received a promotion!

George: Team Crayola is already brainstorming next year's costume...maybe Crayola markers??

Your son did a great job designing the uniforms for the Breast Cancer game. Isn't it wonderful that so many events are raising money for breast cancer elimination, which we all hope will happen some day soon.

I like the Pirates costumes and think your son Benjamin is a great designer. "Team Crayola" looks smashing.

You desrve a lot of admiration for being a creative family involved in good-cause activities.
